Hey everyone, I just bought some used Epoch 50s and TSC2 with Survey Pro 5.7.2. I??m new to this whole setup (Trimble guy) and still learning about them.
First of all, when the epochs turn on it says version 1.01. Is there any danger in upgrading the firmware? Can I even do it since they are used? Can I use a serial adapter since my computer doesn??t have a serial port? Anything else I should know about them?
About Survey Pro, what??s the best to hook it up to my computer running windows 10? It will see it via usb and Bluetooth but can??t browse the files and survey Office won??t see it. Not a huge deal but nice to have. Can I even use Survey Office? Is there free software to transfer files??ÿ
Basically I will take any advice for using these two pieces of equipment. Any help is very much appreciated.
Thank you.?ÿ
By Survey Office, are meaning Spectea Precision Office?
Yeah, SPSO. Spectra Precision Survey Office.?ÿ
I can??t get my computer to see any devices in SPSO. Using a serial to usb for receivers. Can someone please help? Do I use different software?
thanks!
On our Ranger 3, we were using Windows Mobile Device Center to connect to a?ÿWindows work station?ÿusing a usb to usb connection.?ÿ When we switched to Windows 10, Mobile Device Center was no longer available, and we could not get the Rangers to connect.?ÿ There were white papers issued that covered Registry edits to try to fix this.?ÿ However, we were able to get the Rangers to connect by changing a USB setting in the ?ÿRanger.?ÿ The following worked for us:
In the Ranger (TSC) Windows Start menu select settings; then select Connections; then select USB to PC; uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality".?ÿ That solved our communication issues.?ÿ The Rangers now connect to any Windows workstation and all folders & files can be seen in Windows Explorer as a docked hard drive.?ÿ Mobile Device Center or any other software is not needed to connect and download.?ÿ We also have no issues seeing the Ranger in SPSO now.
That being said, we are not using a serial to usb connection, so I don't know if this will fix your issue.?ÿ We are?ÿrunning Survey Pro 6.0.1.13.?ÿ The operating system is Windows CE 5.2.29336, and I believe our Ranger firmware is current.

Thanks Mike. I tried unchecking that box and it didn??t work in SPSO. Not positive I checked to see if I could get to it from explorer though. I will try again.?ÿ
The serial cable is for the epoch 50s. I have lemo to serial that came with the receiver so I bought a serial to usb to hook up to computer to make sure it??s configured the way I want it and possibly update it. Any experience with that?
Well, I??ve learned a few more things about my gear. I??m being told I need to try creating a virtual COM port for the serial connection to my pc. Also, I have the latest firmware to install but it says I should have 4.62 before installing. And I think 4.62 says I should have another version prior to installing. Is that really the case? Does anyone have experience with this?
thanks!
I have no experience with the hardware or software you are writing about.
One thing that I keyed on was the use of a serial to USB bridge. That is one problem I did encounter when trying data communication. It never worked for me though I tried every variation available. Finally, installing a serial port made everything fine. Is there any way you can install a serial port in your PC??ÿ
I now have a notebook computer with an express card (card bus) serial port and a desktop with a half-height true RS-232-c serial port. Data communication software is working flawlessly. The serial to USB bridge is in the drawer now where it can no longer do harm.
Historic boundaries and conservation efforts.
Another option with SPSP is to use the cloud via?ÿ https://spectraprecisioncentral.com/ .?ÿ You will need a valid SPSP warranty and a WiFi connection.?ÿ Once you set up Spectra Precision Central and your data collector, it will auto sync your entire Survey Pro Jobs folder as your working file is updated in near real time.?ÿ You also have the ability to upload/download files to the cloud.?ÿ You know...the way cloud things normally work. 🙂
