Hello all, I am interested in buying a Trimble Geo 7x Handheld. I would like to run Trimble Access with it being connected to a network to get live corrections. I only need meter accuracy for what I plan to use it for, but I am being told by a Trimble salesman that I would need an external rover to get that precision when running Access on it! Does anybody use this or the previous model to do simple stakeout on a network in Trimble Access?
Maybe he means you'll need to use an external antenna to get that precision?

You can easily get sub meter with a VRS network. We have about 5 of these in our GIS fleet.
IMHO - too much $$$$ for what you get.
If you get the Geo7X with Access, it will be the "centimeter" edition and will come with an external Zephyr antenna. Probably looking at $13k for this setup. You can get lower accuracy versions of the 7x in GIS configurations running Terrasync. If you're set on Access in a Geo format, you might look at this used Geo 6000. It's from a trusted dealer in Louisiana and I believe was actually a demo unit. I considered buying it last year and they were asked around $7500 for it then.
Geo7x is Overkill w your accuracy needs. Sub meter is easy with any decent WAAS receiver. But if you need to tie w ' NAD83' in the field, then WAAS, being IGS08, you will get bit w a meter bust.

I've been researching some gis solutions this week too. I think we're going with the Trimble Terra flex app on a tablet since we're mainly trying to collect attribute data and 1 meter accuracy is not as big a concern. I did stumble across this though.

Thanks StL, I'm looking at those too. I'll have to check out that review.

hi?ÿ
how can i install trimble access to geo7x ?
just installed terra sync in this divice
You can specify the survey version and it will come from Trimble with Access installed.?ÿ CM Accuracy with VRS network.
They're OK if they work for what you need, but I'd spend more on an R10 with far more ability, or far less for something from another brand with equal or better-than ability.?ÿ The Geo 7X is an older package with an outdated chip.?ÿ I've put in a lot of hours with one, and it worked well - it's just past its prime so to speak.
Be careful buying used, if you get the GIS version you can't install Access at all.?ÿ I'd look into Catalyst myself - Trimble is doing some really cool things with satellite-based correction services.
