I haven't used my convertToRINEX utility in a few months. I just tried opening it today, and I got an error message: "trimble.convertToRinex has stopped working." I thought maybe the problem was my Windows 10 upgrade, so I downloaded the program on an older computer running Windows XP. Got the same error message.

I also tried uninstalling convertToRinex and re-installing on two different Windows 10 computers just to get the same error message. Will the utility only run on Windows7?

Any suggestions on an alternative download or troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I ran into the same problem a couple of days ago. I haven't looked around for a fix yet.

As an alternative, you can use teqc or Winteqc.

Just download the latest versions of Convert to RINEX and the Trimble Configuration Utility from the Trimble web site. You have to update this stuff periodically. I use it every day, it works fine.

Been there, done that. It still crashes.

That's odd.... I know older versions don't work, but I've never had a problem with the current one. Did you update the Config file as well as the program?

I've seen instances where computers that had a lot of old Trimble software on them over the years would have problems running things; a couple TBC versions back Trimble released a cleanup utility that gets rid of old software, databases, and registry entries. That has helped me to get TBC running on a couple of occasions.

It appears Trimble fixed one major problem with TBC. In the past I couldn't get TBC to properly adjust a combined GNSS and conventional network if I didn't start on a GNSS point and backsight a GNSS point. I installed the latest release (3.70 I think) and was able to process a small network where I didn't follow the TBC workflow. I started on a non-GNSS point and backsighted a non-GNSS point with an azimuth entered. It still won't let the azimuth float free even if you put something like 5å¡ on the standard errors (I did it with my pocket compass, it's a throwaway azimuth). But I put in an estimated coordinate for the first setup and backsight points then made sure the points were all ? quality and they don't appear to affect the adjustment like a free coordinate in StarNet. The results very closely agree with the StarNet results. I haven't been able to get this to work on previous versions of TBC but maybe I didn't try it exactly like this.

I haven't tried to run my huge project which involves miles of Forest traverse with a GNSS network with points wherever I could get a little open sky (spread about a mile apart, typically). StarNet handles it smoothly with no issues (once I found all my height blunders-actually it processed, just had big residuals in places). There is no way to start on a GNSS point and backsight another GNSS point, I can barely fit one point in the little opening, let alone two. It might work if I seed it with some StarNet points spread throughout but then why do I need TBC if I have to run it in StarNet first? TBC does the GNSS network with no issues, of course, just putting the conventional on it has been problematic.

Okay so I didn't read the instructions the first time and never downloaded/installed the configuration utility.... My mistake.

However, I just uninstalled ConvertToRinex, installed the configuration utility, and re-installed ConvertToRinex (all via Trimble website), and program still won't run....

So now, as Jim so eloquently put it, I have "been there, done that. It still crashes." I guess I will give Teqc a try...

Thanks for the replies!

If anyone is having the same problem, I figured it out! Or, at least I figured out one way to make the program work. In Windows 10, you can right click programs and select an option called "troubleshoot compatability." If you check the box that says "this program worked in earlier versions of Windows, but won't install or run now," it will then let you choose from a number of previous Windows versions which may run the program. Windows 7 didn't cut it, but I tried Windows XP and it started right up! Keep in mind that I also had the latest configuration utility installed, which may be necessary..

That worked for me, too -- thanks for the suggestion!

I'm not not sure if you were converting to RINEX to send it to OPUS but if you were you can try this. You can send to OPUS right from TBC without using the RINEX converter.

Hope this helps!
