Hello all,
Wondering if anyone has had success connecting a Spectra Precision Ranger 3 to the Topcon HiPer V GPS Antennas. We are having an issue getting them connected using a Base and Rover style setup. The bluetooth connection seems funtional, however when getting to the "Start Survey" step, we cannot get the Base to activate and move the ranger on to the rover connection. When hitting the "Setup Base" button, the ranger chugs and finally spits out a "Failed to execute command" warning.
We are running survey pro v5.3 on the collector we have tested, and our vendor confirms all the bluetooth/radio settings are correct. Furthermore, his topcon magnet software activates the setup without a hitch.
Taking a shot in the dark and wondering if someone has solved this issue or has any advice.
Thanks all!
Jonathan
Have you tried factory resetting the Hipers and Hard resetting the DC I remember we had a similar problem with our Hiper 2's. are you hitting finish setting base or set rover in the select a base point screen.
I have one set of Topcon GR3s and an old set of HiPer Lites that have always had a good relationship with the Rangers with Spectra on them.
However our "new" GR5s required the installation of something called "Legacy" (at 1000 bucks a pop) to communicate with Spectra software. I figured it was Topcon's way of letting people know they didn't like Trimble. I cussed and paid it. I hope that is not the case with your gear.
Have you tried 'calling' the HiPer V an older Hiper in the setup?
I had similar issues and found out I needed to download the latest modem firmware from Topcon. I believe it is Version 2.0? You can check your firmware using Topcon's TRU software.
Talk to your dealer, you need them to request a "Legacy" or "third-party" options authorization file. Topcon changed some things in the way the file works and Survey Pro is looking for old messages that Topcon no longer puts in the file.
interesting. i run a spectra precision ranger 3 with brand new Hiper V system no issues. i did not purcahase any 1000$ legacy either? i am running version 5.4.2 on another note i also run a brand new GR5 system again without purchasing anything extra and everything works fine. i am in canada maybe that is the difference?
If your Survey Pro works with a HiPer V that came off the shelf without the "3rd party OAF", then it is either one the dealer had on the shelf for quite a while, or the dealer knew it needed the option to work with non-Topcon controllers and put it on the system from the get go.
I'd suspect the latter option because we had to order that option since shortly after the HiPer V and GR-5 with the Vanguard GPS chip in them came out. But effective 1/1/14 we started to have to pay for it.
Sounds like the person who began this thread didn't buy the collector and the HiPer V units from the same dealer.
We are using the HiPer V's as a demo to see if they will work with our current setup of Spectra Ranger 3's. I was not aware of this Topcon Legacy activation but will see if they have heard of anything like this. I also don't have any way of checking the antennae's firmware, as we are simply demo'ing these units, however i will ask this as well. We previously had purchased our Ranger from a different vendor like someone had mentioned, so this combination of equipment wasn't discussed at that time.
I have also attempted initializing the setup with other Topcon Instrument Types (Hiper II, GR5, etc) in Survey Pro with no luck.
I also had a chance to try connecting the units to one of the antennae's individually and setup a Network Rover setup, but was unsuccessful. I was able to get connecting to a mount point and connected to the server, but not actually finish the "Start Survey" routine.
Thanks for all the helpful responses, it's encouraging to hear of others success, i will push on at figuring this out.
