If you are running a Spectra Precision SP80, you need to update the firmware to the latest version Version 1.5
It is on the Spectra Precision website, or there are links here:

It will take you 5 minutes and could save you a lost field day.
Surprisingly this is related to a BeiDou SV issue and not a leap-second problem.

My vendor is telling me that there will be a v2.0 in about a month and is suggesting waiting for that.
I think that as long as BeiDou SV #31 is is not visible to your receiver, then you need not make the update. Here is the FAQ note:
"Reset due to satellite BEIDOU #31: the recently launched satellite #31 may reset the GNSS firmware.
This problem may stop all the periodic output and so the field software does not receive any more the
solution. This problem is now resolved."
I can't figure out if BD31 is geosynchronous over Asia or in an orbit around the world. But if there is a chance that it will fly over Salt Lake City, AND I am using an SP80 as a base, I don't want to have to run back to the base to reset it.
BTW, it only take 1 minute of effort to update and perhaps 20 minutes of thumb sitting.
🙂 I just attended the online webinar for the new SP60 and it is pretty nifty. But the new firmware for the SP80 enables tilt, web interface and a bunch of other cool tricks.

We do most of our work using Oregon's RTN, so I wouldn't expect that to be a problem. If I did do any single base work, I suppose I could just disable the Beidou collection. The trouble isn't the 1 minute or the 20 minutes, but the fact that these things are in the field all day everyday. That time would have to come out of a weekend.
