Or is everyone too busy doing real work to play with them today?

Been wondering how they perform. I was on the trial list, but had my name removed. I didn't want to convey interest in purchasing when I can't right now.

I'm on my way to pick mine up at the local FedEx office.

Could use a manual. Can anyone tell me what the tweezers are for?

Inserting the MicroSD card and the SIM card. It can be tricky without them.

Ditto on the manual -- I'm fumbling through the menus trying to get things figured out.

What I really want to do first is connect to a local RTN via WiFi, using my phone as a hotspot. I'm having trouble on two fronts:

1. It sees the hotspot and gets a good signal, but when try to connect and enter the password, it doesn't connect. I can connect to the 'net via ethernet cable without any trouble, and I can connect other devices to my phone without issue. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

2. I'm not able to connect to the RTN mountpoint. I entered the info, but I'm not showing any data indicating that it's talking to the RTN, even when connected via cable.

I expect these are newbie matters, so if anyone has tips, I'd appreciate seeing them. I did email the Javad support address, but those guys probably work normal office hours.

P.S. I'd like to be able to store screenshots for support purposes. I can apparently take a screenshot by using the PrtScn button, but I don't know how to save the image to a file. Is there a convenient way to bail to the operating system, and then get back into the GPS application?

Jim give me a call and I will walk you through the connection.

I can't help you on the screen shots but I have been using my LS with my phones hotspot for a while and it works great.

I don't completely understand all of your details but when I want to grab a screen shot I use the MS Snipping Tool. You can search for it in the Windows Start search feature. I have it pinned to my Windows Start button.

Then you can save it as a jpeg.

Perhaps the program you're running won't allow access to the Windows Start button.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Dave.

Hi Jim,

1) exit the wifi setup by going to home screen after you put the password in. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to take. Go back into wifi and your desired connection should be red. The top connection just shows whichever connection is at the top of the list, not the one being used.

2) in order to see if rtn is connected; go to the collect screen. At the top of the screen you should see a box with a couple numbers in it, and it will be green, yellow, or red if rtn is working. clicking that box will show the setup screen again, but it doesn't show rtn connected even if it is.

Only way I know to get the windows screen is hit power off, then pick it instead of the turn off option.

Here is what I have found so far working with mine.

Likes

- The adjustable and telescoping pole is lightweight and easy to collapse. This will make it easy to walk through woods and put into a car to drive around.

- The built in compass makes it very easy to stake out points. The stakeout screen points you in the right direction and gives you the distance to the point.

- Long battery life

- I haven't done a lot of testing yet but it seems to fix reliably in locations where other receivers would stand a slim chance of fixing.

Dislikes / Things I haven't been able to figure out

- The built in adjustment for pole tilt does not seem as accurate as I had hoped it would be. It seems like the pole will need to be held fairly close to plum to get accurate measurements.

- I don't see a way to start the base station on a new point by averaging the autonomous position and then saving the point. It will start the base station on an autonomous position but it doesn't save that point. I would then like to be able to enter an OPUS position for that point and have all the coordinates be adjusted so they are real state plane coordinates. After looking after at JustinLink briefly, it may be able to do these things but I need to learn how to use it.

- Some of the buttons on the touch screen do not seem to respond properly even when I am using a stylus. I tried calibrating the screen which did not help.

- I do not see a way to stake a line in real time. The COGO command lets you create points from line offsets but I would like to be able to enter 2 points and have the station and offset between them shown in real time as I move around.

J-Field distinguishes between surveyed points (which are referred to as "Points") and Design points (which are referred to as Stakes). If you are wanting to stake a line between two surveyed points go to HOME>STAKE>MORE>STAKE LINE. Define the line by the two end points P1 and P2. Set N (number of points along the line) to 0. Create the alignment, save it as a name (ie "WBL 10.00 Ac"). Under settings, check the box for "nodes only". Then Stake. The top values will show you the station and offset as you walk this line. Once you are ready to store a point, press Start, Stop, Accept. The routine will create a stake at the perfect station with zero offset and populate the actual measured coordinates of this stake point with your observation.

Thanks

On the map screen what do the numbers below the points mean? The point number is above the point but there are numbers like "251.72ft" below the point.

Go to HOME>COLLECT>VIEW. There you see settings for what is visible on the Map screen. Likely this value is the "altitude".

Is there a comprehensive manual available? I feel there is a lot I'm missing with what we've been emailed and what's available on the website.

Not exactly comprehensive. They're enough to get me started using the LS and Triumph 2 in a conventional base-rover setup using the UHF radio but what if I want to us the LS as a network rover using VRS? Or perhaps I want to set up the base at the office and send the corrections via gprs and netcaster? Is that even possible? I've been looking at the VS manual but there seem to be many differences in the software.
