I'm a retired CE and to amuse myself have acquired a used 5700 and Zephyr Geodetic model 1 antenna to use for static work. Specifically I want to start contributing to the NGS's GPS on Bench Marks program through OPUS Share. It's a good excuse to wander out in the middle of nowhere and more socially useful than geocaching. Since GNSS surveying was never my gig, I have a few of what are likely pretty dumb questions as to good practice, stuff I haven't found by reading. Been lurking (and learning) on this website for a couple of months, and you guys seem pretty damned cordial.....for surveyors.
So, first dumb question is what to set the 5700's logging interval for? I understand OPUS decimates to 30 seconds, so is there anything to gain by increasing the sampling rate to a shorter interval? Beyond submitting it to OPUS Share (and eventually to the Geoid 12B program) that data won't be used for anything else. Thanks for any input!

I use 15 seconds for static sessions, even when I know it's only for OPUS use, but that's mostly because I don't want to bother changing the setting in the receiver. Unless you have a really RAM-constrained device, just about an receiver can log a day's worth at 15 seconds.
You'll probably want to research the 5700 firmware issue. I don't have any 5700s, so I don't remember if the problem pertains to static or only to RTK, but if I'm remembering correctly a problem cropped up as a result of a GPS week rollover. There was a lot of discussion about it on this site.
Thanks Jim. I have a 1 GB Compact Flash in the unit so size is no problem. I think it defaults to 15 seconds, so I'll leave it as is.
I was fortunate that the unit I acquired had the 2.32 firmware update so the week problem isn't an issue (I saw all the threads here). I got the unit for next to nothing (my tripod cost more) because it wouldn't power up. Turned out it was just a bad membrane switch, an easy fix.
