The SP85 is a great receiver. What software are you running?

Hi , I have Ranger 3 with survey pro and survce together.

Actually I?ÿ have old trimble R6 , wnich I use with survey pro

and robotic total station s- series trimble.

Survey pro is fine for me but I like survce too , when I only use?ÿ GPS

So it?ÿ is my idea to buy spectra receiver wnich will be work

with survce and survey pro.

When I buy Trimble?ÿ I will be attached to only this?ÿ brand.

The second thing is : wnich receiver has better performance?ÿ

and will be better to work ?

?ÿ

Either way you go it is probably not going to be a long term relationship. It seems that the Trimble in question is already an old one. The SPs just don't have the build quality to really last.?ÿ That's probably OK, because the way GPS technology is going anything you buy today will be obsolete well before it quits working.?ÿ?ÿ

So you are buying something to get you through until you can afford what you really want. And whatever you buy will inform your next purchase. It boils down to which product line do you want to get onboard with.

Personally I'd probably go with the Trimble because I like Access a lot more than Survey Pro.?ÿ

We are a trimble shop. Our R10s are dropping like flies. Don't spend a nickel on one without a thorough internal check. That will require a new thermal seal to reassemble so expect to drop several hundred on it.

Running GNSS and Robotics on the same software is nice. I did it with my S5 and Spectra SP80's. That being said, I didn't care for the quality of the SP80's (Performance was ok but I never used an R10) so I just got Carlson BRx7's. Yeah, I have to export and import between SurvPC and Access but the performance gain was worth it. I think the BRx7's are similar in price to the SP85's too. I wouldn't bother with a Trimble R10 unless you really think you can swing the $27k price of the R12 down the road. GNSS gear is improving fast. There is no need to buy top of the line Trimble gear in order to get top notch performance.

I lean towards carlson brx7 but in this case I will not be able to use gps and total station in one software at the same time.

I have used a SP80, Brx6+, and Brx7 B&R. I only use my R10 for network purposes. SurvCE is alot more user friendlier then Survey Pro.

The SP80 hidden antenna is a great design, but the housing has its flaws. The battery doors WILL go out and will need to be replace within time. The battery and pin contact on the receiver will soon get lose, making your receiver turn off if bumped. I'm saying this cause I believe the SP80 and SP85 have the exact same housing. I still use my SP80 (backup) when running 2 crews if need-be.?ÿ

I have not use a SP85. I choose a Brx7 over an SP85 because of the price. Now that I have a Brx7 B&R, I have had remarkable results in heavy tree canapy and 3000+- ft w/ internal radios. I have been told the Brx7 has gone up in price, as has everything else (smh), but its a well worth investment.?ÿ

If Trimble and SurvCE would ever join forces, then maybe Id try running Trimble Receivers for B&R.

@lucek I use a TSC7. I haven't tried running both at the same time but everything works great.
