The current SW version of my GS14:

System OS SW Version: 6.00.0958
Measurement Engine SW Version: 6.113

i do need to upgrade to the latest Viva version for Captivate compatibility reason. Would it also mean more satellite tracking capability?

I think that to get additional satellite tracking you need to purchase additional constellations in addition to the firmware update.

@amdomag We had an update/upgrade on our 2 GS14 in 2018.

Not 100% sure but thought that for Galileo and BeiDou you need SW 6.15 and +.

One of the GS14 was an earlier model and only could get the Galileo update and not Beidou (hardware difference from 2016)

For additional constellations we needed to purchase license from Leica.

LOP30 for Galileo

LOP39 for BeiDou

No idea about Captivate compatibility.
Best idea is to contact Leica and ask about your personal setup (give serial nrs of your equipment) and what you want.

@ttt242 I am still waiting for the seller's response. Highly hoping for increased satellites tracking capability. Thanks for sharing.

@amdomag you can check your options of your GS14 when you make an account and enter the serials nrs and model in Leica my world. https://myworld.leica-geosystems.com/irj/portal

On the GS14 datasheet at the end you can see that there are 2 types sold, Performance and Professional. If you have the performance, you have to buy the different LOPs for Glonass/Galileoƒ??..

https://leica-geosystems.com/-/media/files/leicageosystems/products/datasheets/leica_viva_gs14_ds.ashx?la=en-us&hash=8B6A3830AC3A4623D490D7DDD9762E5A

I personally would ask myself the question if I would invest money in updating an older GNSS system like the GS14 but I donƒ??t know your personal situation and work environment. Maybe the GS14 works great for what you need.

The lifespan of your GNSS equipment, you have to compare like a smartphone, maybe a little longerƒ??.. A total station lifespan can be much longerƒ??.

@ttt242 My GS14 RTK kit is Professional and can track GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo. The CCP ended in 2016. My question pertains to the firmware capability to track new GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellites launched after the firmware installation date. Sorry for not making my question very clear at the very start.

@amdomag compare the signals with GS16 datasheet.

https://leica-geosystems.com/-/media/files/leicageosystems/products/datasheets/leica_viva_gs16_gnss_smart_antenna_ds.ashx?la=en

On GS14 no L5 on GPS, etcƒ??.so no new signals.

@ttt242 As far as I know, when a newly launched satellite begins broadcasting data, a receiver can't recognize the digital footprint as its signal replica is not yet onboard. Even if the GS14 was designed to track Galileo satellites, there is no guarantee that it is absolutely future proof. This is where firmware updates come into play. In my opinion, all satellites launched after the firmware production date are not trackable. I hope I am wrong.

When a new signal component such as GPS L5 is added, the receiver cannot process that component without an update.

When a new satellite is launched with signal components like previous ones, the almanac downloaded from other satellites is updated to indicate when that new satellite has been declared operational, and the receiver can use it without a firmware change.

@bill93 I am interested on algorithm that generates replica. My knowledge is very limited on how GNSS works.

If the reference information provided by the constellation enables a receiver to generate replicas then I'm convinced that no firmware update is needed. If the algorithm is embedded and isolated then I would say replica generation is internal. As we all know, pseudoranging is only working if the receiver is able to identify the SV from where signal is coming from.

In the original GPS design there were 31 possible pseudorandom codes, and receivers knew how to match all of them. They only needed to learn which codes were in active use by satellites, and that list was broadcast.

I'm thinking later signal components and other constellations probably work the same way with predefined codes. Someone can correct t me if not.
