I got the R8-S equipment and i am looking for these options. As for Antenna my reseller gave me a definitive answer that other than the antenna facing downwards there's no other product available.

Can this information really be reliable? Is there really no chance i can have an external antenna via a cable so i can place the unit on a benchmark without having to use the 50cm extension rod

-Additionally since the battery lasts a finite number of hours, what options do i have so it is direcly powered by an continous power source, in order to have a base functioning for a whole day, without needing to be near the base and swap batteries?

For the antenna You need a TNC (not RP-TNC) male/female extension lead.
Like these https://www.rfshop.com.au/coaxial-cable-assemblies/with-tnc/tnc-extension-cables.html

For the power, you can supply 12V or 24v external power into port 1 (7 pin lemo) using a trimble cable or probably from an alternative supplier.

I use an external antenna quite often.

This way is very portable. I have also used a longer coax and put the antenna on top of a level rod.

Only problem is, this antenna bracket came in a conex box that my boss bought at an auction with a bunch of tripods and poles so I have no idea where to get one just like it.

Here is the bracket:
http://www.allenprecision.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/4863/s/seco-radio-antenna-bracket/?gclid=CNid9PLy9tECFZS6wAoddbcD3Q

The antenna mount it a Geospace 11581 (the black plastic molded piece between the antenna and the coax)
For UHF, (450-470) the coax is a typical cable with tnc connectors.

So I'm looking for something like this?

Picture is random, basically from some audio installation link I found. Does it matter if it's 12 or 24V? I'm from Europe so mains is 220-240V, what should the input V/A to be fed on the unit

Nice Setup. Are you sure though that an antenna is compatible with my R8-S model internal radio?

BTW that unit looks way too slant. Are you measuring using that position

NEI in Lafayette, LA has an excellent bracket that clamps to the pole and mounts a 5db gain whip antenna; the cable is only the length needed to get from the antenna to the receiver.

They also have cables with alligator clips to the small Lemo that would allow you to power the R8 through Port 1, or they could make one with any connector you want at the battery end..

I buy power cables and antenna cable from western states cable http://www.wscable.com/ . We almost always power the units with an external battery when doing static work, which can be 4 to 6 or more hours.

Very easy to order online, and they made some custom cables for my pedestal outside, great to work with. I order a few times a year from them. The prices may seem high at first glance, but they do make quality stuff, it will last.

Well no, it is leaning against my truck so I can get a picture.

The pin outs for the lemo are in the manual. So you could buy a lemo plug and wire it to crocodile clips (or whatever you need for the battery you will be using). Tnc extension cable for the antenna can also be bought fairly cheaply.

Make sure you know which way you are looking at it. The diagram is viewed behind the plug. As far as I know you can't buy lemo plugs prewired unless you find an old kead on ebay. The Leica ones are similar but different in my experience.
