Carlson guys, I need some help. Having issues w/the BRX-6 and VRS. I can only get about a 1/2 day of work out of it before it becomes nothing more than a boat anchor. Anyone else seeing this? I'm in South Central and Southwest FL. Strange thing is, if I switch to using the "near" solution I can get fix. I've talked to FDOT and they don't recommend stretching baseline lengths over 8 miles. Now, I don't do much vertical and they said the 8 mile threshold was b/c of vertical. I'm wondering if I should just use the "near" solution all the time since vertical isn't really a concern of mine (I generally have it turned off on the DC anyways). Anyhow, I'm waiting to hear from Carlson on the issue at the moment, but thought I'd post here to see if anyone else is seeing. I know GPS gets a little "rough" around here in the afternoon, but so far I'm going on 3 hours now where I cannot obtain a fixed position. I have had upwards of 16 satellites and still cannot get fixed. This is a fairly new setup too, purchased in February of this year. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Might not be your setup. There was a post a few weeks ago about issues with VRS starting late morning and running into the early afternoon. We noticed this starting about 3 months ago and steadily getting worse. We are seeing the same thing you are in that the unit is showing plenty of satellites for a fix, but will just sit in auto. The peak was yesterday as I had a crew working with two different firms yesterday...My crew was running Topcon gear (all new) and the other crews were running new trimble and new spectra gear. All three crews started having the identical issue at about 11:30 am eastern and it continued for about 45 minutes. What they?ÿ noted is units that had an obscured east view had issues fixing and a unit that had an eastern view still had issues, but not as bad as the others. My crew switched from a 2m pole to a 15' pole and were also able to get enough fixes to get some work done. Then around 12:30 the issue disappeared and everybody was good to go. So it seems there is something going on with satellite configuration during the middle of the day.

?ÿ

So far there have been reports of this in ohio, coastal regions of north carolina and south carolina, and down into Florida.

I rarely use VRS anymore because of bad experiences in the most in opportune times, such as server upgrades, lack of good cellular service, etc. Those bad experiences were mainly in remote areas. However, some of my contract surveyors utilize VRS regularly ?ÿ

One of my contractors reported yesterday they have been seeing vertical issues with the NC VRS for about 2-months now on a variety of GNSS platforms. Approximately 0.20ƒ?? low, when typically seeing vertical differences of 0.06ƒ??-0.08ƒ??. But they are not seeing any issues when using older R8ƒ??s with GPS only and not when using their own Base/Rover setup.

I have been told that NC Geodetic has acknowledged receiving ?ÿsimilar reports from across the state and they have multiple crews in multiple areas checking into it.?ÿ

So the issue in NC at least is not Carlson specific.

You might t try switching to GPS only and see if that helps.?ÿ

I think I am GPS only, or at least GPS and Glonass only.?ÿ FDOT defaults to the "least common denominator" when determining the base position (i.e. if you have 5 contributing bases and 1 of them only has GPS, your solution will default to only GPS)for VRS.?ÿ I bought the system based on the fact I have several friends with a similar setup (network rover only) so the option to use a base is out (don't have one).?ÿ However, I may need to purchase one if this is going to become the norm.?ÿ What's weird is I get no fix w/ VRS but a very quick fix utilizing the nearest base.?ÿ Strange...
