Thanks for looking - any ideas of the value of these instruments will certainly be appreciated.

You don't mention this, but isn't that one of the rare Engineer's Levels? The "Eye End" tag on the box would seem to be the identifier. Apparently, the "Don't Hurt your Eye on the Sunshade" label is no longer with the case, but surely there are repro labels available.

That instrument is probably a '51 or '52 model. It's not in bad condition, either. The wooden case is in good condition also, which is always a plus.

I would hesitate to try and give you a dollar value. I have seen the asking price for surveying instruments vary significantly.

I have several K&E levels. I believe I paid $300 for an older model. I traded a J.C. Higgins single-shot .22 rifle for another post WWII model. I believe their value lies more in folks like myself that collect instruments out of sentimentality than in entertaining a resale market.

Keep it clean and oiled. They can be nice just to have around.

Estimate in today's market

Without a close examination - $200 to $300.

I'd love to make an offer. This item clearly falls into the affordable and desirable column. It's the fact that I don't really need it.

If you're interested, let me know. Probably see you in a month at the convention? No shipping and handling and if you look it over and decide not, I'll sell it to someone else.

K & E Level Dumpy Level

Any speculation as to why it was referred to as a "dumpy level'?

K & E Level Dumpy Level

If I ever knew why they were called a "Dumpy" level, I have long forgotten it. I only know that a dumpy level has no compensator like an automatic level.

K & E Level Dumpy Level

I always thought of it as kind of an odd name.
I wish that I wasn't so trivia minded at times.
