Have you ever purchased anything from Surya Surveying Equipment?

Prices seem low but I am kind of scared of ordering precision tools from Indonesia.
Fearful of scam artists.

Any input is appreciated.

It's 100% scam. There are a few site like this. They'll want a western union money transfer, and you'll never get anything.

They have been around for a while and keep changing their names/websites, but it's the same scam.

That's what I was afraid of.
"If it sounds too good, it probably is..."

Thanks for the reply.

Even if it's a legitimate authorized dealer outside the U.S., you may encounter problems if warranty service is required. You might be shipping it back to that dealer instead being able to have it serviced here even at the manufacturer's U.S. factory service location.

The manufacturers web sites, if you dig a bit, will probably reveal who the authorized dealer/distributor(s) in a country are.

I've never bought anything from Indonesia, but a couple of years ago I had my robotic instrument ran over and totaled and when dealing with my insurance company, they came up with three estimates for the replacement, which were all three very low, in my opinion. When I asked them where they got their estimates from they gave me the names of three surveying supply companyies that I had never heard of. Long story short: when I googled them I found out that they were in Indonesia. Got to love insurance companies.

Another poster had the same problem with their insurance company. Did the insurance company ever get a real quote, or insist on using the scam quote? I'd tell them to pay for it and order it for me, and let me know when it arrives ... LOL.

Yes, I have a good local agent and connected to a nice adjuster. I got $17,000 for a five year old Topcon 8005, which badly needed replacing anyway. The quotes they got from Indonesia were all around $5000. Still had to pay around $7000 out of pocket for a new replacement, but it was worth it.
