Need a tripod with 3" x 8 thread. Or could it be something else?

I have a 3 12" x 8 thread, it is definitely too big.

I have what appears to be what you are asking for. Stiff leg about 5 feet long, outside thread just over 3" diameter thread (not 3-1/2"), 8 tpi (2 full threads/0.25"), inside thread about 1-1/2" threaded. Needs cleaning and refinishing but appears to be complete except for the strap to hold the legs together. Contact me directly if you are interested and I'll send pictures.

A search on eBay reveals the threads may be 3 1/4" x 12. Can anyone verify that.

Still on the hunt.

The one I got from Mr. Parsons is too small. Anybody needing a tripod with 3 and a hair inch threads?

?ÿ

May be interested in just the head of a tripod, I seem to have plenty of legs I can't otherwise use.

As a possible use of the "extra" legs.?ÿ I had an attorney (female) practically beg me for a set of old wooden legs, she had seen a set made into a lamp in some interior d??cor magazine.?ÿ Unfortunately, they were the only set we had that would fit our old Dumpy Level.

Mr Parsons found an extensive list of odd size tripod threads. I believe what I seek is 3.31 x 12 thread. Any help with confirmation would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of years ago I helped sell a roughly-1908-vintage Buff & Buff transit and its threads were 3-5/16 (3.31) inch diameter with pitch of 12 threads per inch, so it appears you are on the right track.

My notes from the time indicate that in addition to Buff & Buff, that same thread was used with the earlier Buff & Berger instruments as well as some manufactured by C.L. Berger & Sons.

Good luck!

Not a cricket but Vern, are you really looking for this tripod head? Then maybe you should send me an email with your contact info. I will mail it to you and if it's the one you need you can send me $25.

Regards, Mike Helsel

Thank you trvlnman, the tripod head fits my instrument perfectly. Now I will test my woodworking skills! Actually, I will cheat and test my brother-in-laws woodworking skills.
