I did not post the full ad, that price includes for a base and a rover... here is the rest of the ad.
Lots of options to think about. Having the ability to add a rover is attractive.

The unit arrived yesterday, and on powerup it hiccupped briefly -- throwing some sort of a "reading firmware error, will attempt reinstall" message, quickly followed by self-reboot (I think) and then a normal powerup sequence. (This all happened so fast that I wasn't able to track exactly what happened, so I may have some of the details wrong.) I did a hard reset just for good measure, and everything looked good after that.
The receiver has 2.5MB of RAM, which is plenty for the kind of 15-second recording interval I typically use. It also has the RTK options enabled, though I don't anticipate any need for them.
It's set up in the back yard as I type, logging data. The location doesn't have a great sky view, but the receiver was looking at 8 SVs when I left. I'll let it run for a few hours to make sure it performs okay. It's going to be a 100° day, good conditions for a shakedown session.
So far, it looks like $150 well-spent.

That is absolutely amazing. For that price, I hope that at least the membrane on the front plate was torn. :>

Sorry to disappoint:

That photo really bums me out. :> (The case actually looks to be in fairly good condition, too.) Who in the world has had that gear sitting in their closet?

Jim,
It doesn't look like it's ever been used. Did you find that on eBay? I haven't found any smokin' hot deals on eBay, so I think I'll go with the X-90, which is out-of-stock until next week.

The case is in great shape, though with the usual Sharpie markings on it.

The eBay seller name is jobsfoundation, apparently located in Minneapolis. I'm guessing it's a nonprofit of some sort, and that some organization donated a ton of Trimble receivers to them. They list them as "for parts or not working," but that just means they don't have the wherewithal to test them. They've been selling them in dribs and drabs for a long time -- probably a year or more. This is the first one I've bid on. I haven't been watching too closely of late, but I think they've mostly been going in the sub-$300 range.

It has definitely been used, but pretty well-cared for for a piece of field equipment. It has the usual Sharpie markings and field scuffs on it, but without the common cuts or dents in the keypad membrane.
I think the X-90 and Javad are a good options for anyone who doesn't want to deal with the vagaries of 20-year-old gear. I have a lot of this old Trimble stuff on hand, so am used to piecing things together as needed, and the kinds of static projects I normally do means that the bulky, "cable-rich" and power-hungry nature of legacy equipment isn't really a bar to efficiency.
Thanks Everyone For Your Input!

Mark is top notch. You will be pleased.

Brad,
I agree 100%. He has bent over backwards to make sure things were running like they should. He has helped me numerous times, even before I became a customer.
He is a class act.
