I have a whole bunch of pdf materials in my Google Drive that a co-worker shared with me after he passed the PS and the VA-specific exams. I'm happy to share everything I have with anyone who is interested.

I'd take you up on this offer if you're still willing.  I have all the suggested materials saved, but would be curious if there are specific handouts they found handy.  Can I message you for sharing information?

@Survey_joe Hey I have two books from the John Foster School that has a lot of the information in it from various sources so other books but it is condensed I can loan out to you if you would like. I am in the central VA area. I also have the Virginia Erosion Control Manual if you have not located one of those yet. I work in Richmond live in Caroline but have no problem loaning out anything for sure.

Did you get the John Foster books from the class itself or are they available for purchase from the association?

I have them from a class itself. The next John Foster will be this coming April. From my research those that do go through the course usually have a higher rate of success. It’s really worth the money. I think it’s around $600 but that gets you food and hotel for the few days. It could a bit more now. You also get the food breakfast lunch. Now the last couple years it has booked fast so check out the Virginia association of surveyors website and book reservations early if you are considering it. I am considering taking the class again this year as I did not take the test last year like I planned. My son got married so it through a small wrench into my plans. I have also been self studying on drainage and such for the Maryland exam it’s been many years since I did a lot of hydrology comps. So been doing that recently. I honestly think I would be better off just taking a college course again since it’s been so long.

I just passed this exam. For anyone taking this in the future, you really need to know how to compute drainage design calculations, I had more of these questions than I anticipated.

Must have's:

Statutes

Regulations

VDOT Erosion and Sediment Control Manual

VDOT Drainage Design Manual

VDOT Survey Manual

I've taken 7 different state exams at this point and this one ranked in 3rd for difficulty. Good Luck.
