The geomatics program accreditation comes after the program was nearly eliminated in 2009. Because the program had produced so few graduates, it was targeted in January 2009 by state higher-education administrators for elimination......
according to preliminary enrollment numbers, there are now more than 60 students in the program. Though it only produced two graduates in spring 2010, that group marked the last class affected by the 2005 hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Ramachandran said the annual number of graduates is expected to be 10 or 12 per year beginning in spring 2011.

Nicholls State

Considering all the education cuts that are in place from our Gov, I am glad to see that they hung on.
There have been some nice endowments or should it be dinations from private firms through the years to get this program rooted in the state.
Of course, if this program folded it's tents then there would be difficult options to attain a 4 yr for licensure.

ABET Accreditation Also Applies Past Grads

Because it is those past grads that make the best case for acceditation, such as how well they do in FS and PS exams.

Any grads that had applications in any state turned down because of a lack of an ABET degree should immediately reapply.

That is not likely to ever occur with respect to a new program.

On the other hand, programs such as at Metro State College of Denver that are in peril of losing accreditation, may have current students in such danger. I have not heard what MSCD is doing about their situation. It certainly was doing great as long as Professor Stoughton was there ... I was the External Program Reviewer back in the 1990s.
