5' Eastern Diamond Back on my street.
OK, no more wearing flip-flops on the trails!
:coffee:
He's a handsome devil.
My father caught a 6' rattle snake in SA, but the largest rattler I ever encountered was on Sapelo Island off the coast of Georgia. He was so fat my brother and I though at first he was a gator crossing the road. Here is a picture of another on that island.

posting pictures of things that might jump out of the monitor and bite them. I have to go change my pants now.
I guess this does sort of fit under Education, kinda, maybe. Do we have a Natural Disasters category?

I hope Noodles rats were not looking at the screen. Probably a whole cage full of rat pellets by now if so.

Probably sounded like some dropping a handful of pinto beans into a 3lb coffee can....

I have two of them here right now in my shirt hiding because of that "pic". :-O
Here's what they'd REALLY like to do to that snake. 😉

Lovely thought there, Rankin. :-/ :coffee:
Cripes Rick!
Is the ECON that high that’s its driving them out? Sylvan Lake is almost five feet above normal. No moccasins(mean bastards they are) though. Now all we need is a hurricane.;-)
Have a great week, and don’t wear “flip flops” in the woods!!

Went to dinner in Denver with Dr. Herb Stoughton back in the 90's. I had fried Rattlesnake ... tastes similar to alligator tail. He had Mountain Oysters.
Wow, look how well it starts to blend in with grassy shoulder in the third photo. Really glad we don't have any here in Hawaii.

Yet another wonderful reason to move to Hawaii. 🙂

No grassy shoulders in Hawaii?;-)
That's a good snake... I live in NW Florida near the Alabama line and we have our share of
Eastern Diamondbacks...
It's been a while since I've seen any over 5 feet in length around here...
All I can say is that if you get hit by one that size, God help you.......
Got me. But then, you'll like Groucho's line...
"I wanted to get a boat with a flat bottom...
but the girl at the boathouse didn't have one."
I guess everyone's seen this one - 9 footer

Supposedly a 9 foot rattler. If I'm workin' in the woods, I don't even kill snakes anymore. I used to kill just about everything that crossed my path, but I guess I've mellowed in my old age.
FL/GA, PLS.
Now all we need is a hurricane.😉
Actually the river is NOT very high for this time of year.
But, good call, that picture is a stones throw from the canoe launch. When I was asked if I killed it (it didn't even cross my mind) I replied, heck no, I hope it scares all them damn tourists away!
My avatar is a manatee I saw in the Econ last month. He was as big as my little jonboat! He shadowed me for about 10 minutes, I believe he thought I was another manatee.
Enjoy the cool weather, see you around.

I believe that a lot of the apparent size is camera perspective.
I have seen 6'+ diamondbacks about 5-6 miles north of where that one was reputed to be found. We lived on the edge of a prairie dog town that covered about a section. Rattlers LOVE prairie dogs.
