EVERYONE -
Please help compile a comprehensive list of surveying/geomatics programs and contacts.
The attached spreadsheet has a fairly extensive list containing info for about 81 surveying/geomatics programs in the US and Territories. I'm sure that with the assistance of the surveyorconnect community, we can fill in any missing blanks.
Let's make this a compete (as of now) list of surveying/geomatics programs - the list sorted by state. Please review your state (and others that you know about) - post missing or correction information in a response.
Perhaps SurveyorConnect can make this list a permanent post at the beginning of this forum - this is a great start to maintaining a comprehensive list.
Thanks,
John
University of New Hampshire has an AAS in Civil Technology, Surveying and Mapping Concentration.
I'd say probably at least half the surveyors in the state went through that program (or the forestry program).
Thanks Gavin - it is surprising that there doesn't seem to be such a list. SurveyorConnect would be a great location to have a sticky post (other forums do this) with the list. With all the traffic this site gets, it seems like users of the list would be able to keep the data current without too much effort.

Paul in PA has a pretty detailed list that he has added too from Many Many discussions hereon. He may be able to share here as he has shared it in many other threads. How about converting your spreadsheet to a goodle doc then anyone can edit it real time and all changes can be tracked and rejected if needed. I can upload to google and post a link if needed. I have some additions for Oregon including Oregon state university and edits for Clark college in Washington.
Thanks Paul - we didn't have University of New Hampshire!
Gavin's list provided and Paul's input we have something for all states/territories except:
Arizona
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii
Maryland
Massachusetts
Mississippi
New Hampshire
New Jersey
Rhode Island
Vermont
Wisconsin
DC
Virgin Island
North Mariana Islands
Guam
If you know that these states/territories DON'T have a program - let me know that too.
Thanks

Jered,
That would be great - I'd appreciate if you'd upload and post a link.

Thanks Jered - that worked great. The number of blank rows is declining.
If you know that you state/territory DOESN'T have a program - please add NONE to the "Institution" column.
Thanks to everyone that's reviewing the list.
I found a good number of my links un-useable tonight.
Arizona, Phoenix College has a Surveying Technology Certificate program.
Cal State Fresno has a BS Geomatics program.
Indiana, Purdue has a Geomatics Engineering minor for Civil Engineers as well as Masters and PHDs.
Indiana, Vincennes University has an AS Surveying.
Kansas, Pittsburg State has a BS Engineering Technology Construction (Surveying)
Maryland, Towson University has a Geography and Land Surveying program.
Michigan, Ferris State University has Surveying Engineering AS & BS.
Mississippi, Mississippi State has a Surveying & Geomatics program.
Mississippi, Hinds Community College has a Drafting & Design Technology Land Surveying option.
Mississippi, Jones County Junior College has 5 Civil Engineering courses in surveying.
New Hampshire, Univ. of NH has a Civil Technology AAs in Surveying & Mapping.
New Jersey, NJIT has BS Surveying Engineering Technology program.
Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania College of Technology has an AAS Surveying Technology degree.
Wyoming, Sheridan College has a Surveying Technology program.
Texas, UT Tyler has an AS in Surveying & Mapping.
That should fill in some gaps.

Additional information regarding the Geomatics program at University of Florida can be found here:
http://sfrc.ufl.edu/geomatics/
as far as I'm aware, the only schools in Florida that offer a surveying/geomatics program are University of Florida and Florida Atlantic
Texas Surveying Programs
Tyler Junior College offers AS in Surveying
UT of Tyler offers a BS in Surveying
Texas State Technical College Waco offers AS in Surveying
University of Houston offers AS Surveying Degree
Lone Star College System Woodlands offers AS in Surveying
Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi offers Undergraduate Degrees
Austin Community College District offers AS in Surveying

The program at MSU is actually a surveying concentration in the Agriculture Engineering Technology & Business department, not a Surveying & Geomatics program. It is not accepted by any other states (as far as I know) for licensure.
The program at Hinds is struggling and has only had around 4 students in the past 6 years or so.
I've heard good reports about the program at Jones, as well as the CE Tech program at Northeast Community College.
There is an ongoing discussion with the state society (MAPS) and MSU to develop an accredited Surveying or Geomatics program. MSU has both the CE and AETB departments developing a plan to see where it will be placed. May be 10 years down the road, but at least people with the ability to make somethng happen are sitting down to talk to us.
Mississippi State University; the Surveying & Geomatics option is a part of the Agricultural and Biological Engineering degree which is ABET accredited.
It includes 4 surveying courses for at least 12 credits, in addition it includes Statistics, Legal Environment of Business, Entrepreneurial Law, CAD and a Soil & Water plus Hydrology course. As an emphasis course there is a GPS-GIS course and the Civil Engineering Department has a grad level PLSS course.
Were it in the Civil Engineering department instead of the AEBT department it would meet PA requirements without question. Because of the ABET accreditation a very good case could be made as it stands.
MSU could strengthen the program by including CE Transportation Engineering, very survey related and a real estate law course. MSU does not need to hire faculty it appears they have sufficient resources in place. The Geoscience Department also has other GIS courses.

UMaine is a BS in Surveying Engineering Technology program. Ray Hintz, PhD, PLS is the program coordinator. Here is the link
https://umaine.edu/svt/ .
There is also the BS in Construction Management program you listed.

It is true that the program is in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, (which does provide a Biological Engineering degree that is ABET accredited), but the degree that is received is in the Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business Major surveying concentration is not ABET accredited as a surveying or geomatics program.
From the AETB website:
"Employment for AETB students include: Food/Fiber Production (Farming), Agrochemical Industries,
Agricultural Lending, Banking, Seed and Grain Processing, Crop Consulting, Agricultural Equipment
Manufacturing and Sales, Farm Management, Engineering, Land Surveying, and Food Processing.
Students may pursue one of four concentrations within AETB: 1) Natural Resources and Environmental
Management, 2) Precision Agriculture, 3) Enterprise Management, and 4) Surveying and Geomatics."
Since Dr. Smith retired and left the program 5 years ago, there really hasn't been anyone leading the program. The MS Board accepts graduates from this program as education based applicants for the FS exam, but it is not accepted as a Tier 1 or Geomatics program. It is tough when a graduate from this program gets licensed in MS and then attempts to get licensed in another state, they find out then that the degree they have is not accepted in many other states.
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi also includes graduate programs. See: http://gisc.tamucc.edu//graduate/graduate.html
The graduate program is called Geospatial Surveying Engineering. The undergraduate program http://gisc.tamucc.edu is called Geographic Information Science and Geospatial Surveying Engineering and has GIS or geomatics as an emphasis.
That's pretty amazing - we've got a spreadsheet with 105 schools offering some sort of surveying/geomatics programs. I would never have guessed that there were that many programs (granted, some of them aren't very deep).
If you have any of the particulars on the programs listed above (such as Program/department, Contact, Contact email, Program website, Address, Phone), please add them directly to:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1g3qgTZ4RTkllXIqndfhw5LRv_dmzIjdDgo57tvJ0uJU/edit?usp=sharing
This will be an excellent resource for anyone wanting to get started or to further their education.
Thanks again for chipping in.
Added 1 more to Minnesota. Changed name of ND school to its proper name.
The NSPS newsletter has an ad for a BS in Construction Survey Management both online and on campus at some school in Florida. I thought Florida had some kind of board regulations against construction surveyors yada yada yada.
