Last week, I showed y'all an old Compass that I bought from the widow of a dear old deceased Surveyor friend of mine. His wife asked me to come by and look at some of the other old equipment that she still has and would like to sell and to say the least, the quality and amount of what is left is quite overwhelming. The value of some of it is priceless, while some of it is not worth the cost of shipping. However, I did say I would help her sell some of it so please bear with me and thanks to Wendell and Angel for providing this category. I will get my friend to donate something that we can raffle off for a worthy cause.
She has probably 5 Kern DKM1s and she wants $300 each.
Only 1 Kern NK3 and it is $300 also
These are brand new chains, but as you can see from the $17.50 price tag on the 100 footer, there is no telling how long they have been in storage and will have some corrosion spots on them (East Texas is a very humid place). No price on these yet, just wanted to show them. If you want to submit an offer, feel free to do so - all offers will be considered, some offers will certainly be considered longer than others...
There is much more stuff that is going to have to be sold - from HP 41CX and accessories to HP 71s, new chaining pins in the box and old tripods in various states of age or disrepair to honest to goodness museum pieces such as I showed you the other day. I will do my best to accurately describe the condition and repair of all items and even though it may be possible, don't count on going out and using the instruments to work with. Any electrical items such as calculators will be tested with batteries to see if it lights up.
Of course, you will have to pay the shipping and insurance and I'm sure that she would give a refund to anyone who was unsatisfied and paid the cost of shipping and insurance back.
Anybody interested? I don't have the time to show it all now and even describe it all now, but I just can't bear to see her sell this stuff in a yard sale. I will take more pictures of some of the stuff later for y'all to see and consider.

Jeff,
I wish I had the extra cash.
I would really like one of the Kern Theodolites. I have always wanted a old school theodolite for star gazing, turning angles for building corners, and using when teaching the Boy Scout Surveying Merit Badge It would also be nice to have a display case with antique instruments in it.
I was asked about a month ago if I would be interested in teaching the surveying merit badge again. I of course jumped at the chance.
Best of luck to you. I'll contact you if things change.
Jimmy
Jeff,
Thanks for posting and Good luck with the results.
I'd also love a Kern but I find it difficult to relay the inherent value of older survey equipment purchases to my wife, the banker.:bored:
Those chains would be great for a surveying program that may not already have some.
This DKM1 went for $1,000 on Ebay back in Jan. $300 sounds like a steal for the right person.
Put me down for one of the Kern.
DKM1
Used a DKM1 (and DKM2) quite a bit back in the early 70's. I loved them both, but the DKM1 was my favorite for “packing around.” It has to be the SMALLEST (and lightest) theodolite ever made. We liked them so much (and had fewer Kern tripods than theodolites), that we had an “adapter” made that let you drop the Kern(s) into a Wild optical plummet tribrach.

I would be interesed in on the DKM1's as well.
Matthew - Please email me with the request and shipping info. Thanks
Jeff,
I'd like to purchase a Kern DKM-1 and the Kern NK3 level- I have emailed you directly.
Thanks!

Jeff,
Great looking stuff, too bad I'm in the same boat as Jimmy Cleveland. Keep posting, maybe I'll be able to snag something.
You are a fine man to do such a thing for this woman. Getting her better value for her items than a yard sale would do, and getting the items to a set people that will highly appreciate them.
Good on you.
:good:
Carl
Is that a 01' gun?
Yea Carl, I wish we could have been born rich instead of so good looking!!!:-D
Jeff, Keep posting. Maybe I'll get lucky and win the lottery.
Jimmy
Hi Nathan,
If interested, I have the next step up from the NK3 level for sale, that is the NK3(m) which has the parallel plate micrometer.

Out of DKM1s - Thanks
I will have more things later on since I just went out to pick up another load of stuff. Who wants to buy a box of old empherises from 1959 - 1990 for $10 bucks and shipping? Thanks everyone for your interest and help in getting these things to good homes.
Out of DKM1s - Thanks
Put us down for a 200' chain and a clamping handle when you figure out what to charge for them. Many thanks.
It's a fine thing you're doing.
Cheers,
