Didn't know if to post this in General Non-Surveying or Rest in Peace.

I had a setback on Friday night, got poisoned by odor-less/smokeless fumes from a thermacell insect repelling device, lost my motor functions while carrying my dog from my boat dock, fell and cracked two ribs and put a nail puncture in my lower/side rib cage. Continued to be affected, and fell 15 times trying to get to the cabin. Just could not stand up or have balance. Read label on the neighbor's ThermaCell box next day, it said do not directly breath fumes, otherwise expect deliberateness of muscle motor functions. If this occurs, start mouth to mouth recitation. Dog is 16 years old but hadn't trained him on that one.

Had an ER Doctor on the bush lake who attended to me, and rested up till Sunday before I could fly myself back in to the big Village (Anchorage). Big leadership meeting obligations this week, so can't take a sick break. Tomorrow have an hour presentation about a 5 year plan for our surveying function, so got to get that right. But I am wounded pretty damn good. Went to doc-in-the box for x-ray, he saw all the old healed rib cracks and the new ones and asked if I was a Rodeo Rider, told him no: a Surveyor. Too much trauma in my past. Didn't have to fill out an extensive medical history, I have it all in a spreadsheet for the trauma section as they never have enough room on the medical form for me. One more entry to the trauma spreadsheet I guess....

One of the worse parts of this whole situation, other than not being able to get comfortable in any position to sleep is that laughing about kills me with pain. Sleep is over rated, but I am jonesing to be able to laugh as that is a big part of my day.

😀 😀 😀 BTW emotiocons are a poor substitute...

Wounded northern.

No wonder they don't let you out in the field much.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure your coworkers would understand if you took a couple days off. It's not like you went on a bender and engaved in deliberate self poisoning (or is that self medicating?). Reschedule your dang meeting.

Thanks @eapls... no chance of rescheduling meeting, its all for those with pay scales above mine. To much at stake to be a no show. I am wounded but not down, shows commitment to the cause.

And, Angel, I do try to take care, trauma and drama just seems to follow me around sometimes.. Your sweet concern is always appreciated.

I hereby promise to not start a call for jokes that might make you laugh. No puns aloud.

NS-

Thank you for the 'heads-up'

I was considering this Thermacell but with your warning and the link here:

http://www.thermacell.com/sites/default/files/canada-appliance-insert.pdf

and not being able to control the 'stuff' I'll keep using bug spray when needed.

In this area we are fortunate to not be blood donors to bugs that often.

I think our now retired colleague Vern Hink, Past President of the Manitoba Land

Surveyors Association ran into Lyme Disease.

Prennez garde !

I think that they are seling them by the truckload here.. I see them for sale everywhere here since reports of West Nile virus are coming in.
I almost looked at one while waiting in line at a check-out the other day.

"...but I am jonesing to be able to laugh as that is a big part of my day."

That right there says a lot about you that I, for one, am happy to know.
Good luck NS, and speedy recovery.

I guess I'l stick with

burning hunks of birchbark to drive the no-see-ums away. DEET does not seem to work on them.

Sounds like you’ve had your fun for the year, glad you are in good spirits. Since laughing is a no-no I won’t tell you the one about when Jeanie, Samantha, and the Flying Nun all got drunk at a Chippendale show in the local bar………

Get well soon!

What happened to Daryl? Guess I missed that! So I won't feel too bad about my bad knees and the weather here in Nome!

Get healed up, Mike.

Good one Dugger!

Long day yesteday, 19 hours bed to bed. Whipped all day today, just had a nice hot tub soak and beer. Feel too guilty to sleep, one of our few sunny days, a hot 74 for Anchorage and its near solstice. A little time in the LazyBoy then probably get outside and do something tough. The wife wants to fly out tomorrow night into the Alaska Range for an overnight campout so she can go wilderness running, so got to gear up for that.
