I heard an interview on the radio with this Brit journalist/mathematician and author of “Here’s Looking at Euclid” named Alex Bellos who is conducting a survey on people’s favorite numbers. It runs until September, so if you want to take part, the web address is:
http://www.favouritenumber.net/ (note that the web address has the vulgar spelling of “favorite”. Silly Brits.)
I figured this would be a pretty enthusiastic crowd to unleash on such a survey (pun intended).
It will ask what your favorite number is, why, what country you’re from, age, gender. There is also a check box for those in the “I don’t have a favourite (sic) number”
It depends...
It depends on what the number is going to be used for.
Obviously, 93 is one of mine (and it doesn't refer to a year).
Also, 42 because it's the answer to the great question of life, the universe, and everything. [Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy]
Others for other purposes.
It depends...
Bill – I hadn’t thought of it, but I wonder if 42 will tip the scales of the survey because of Hitchhiker's Guide? I just asked my 14 year old what her favorite number is and she replied, without looking up from her lap top in that brusk, annoyed voice that only a 14 year old can wield like an machete, “42. Of course”. (She’s a big Douglas Adams fan)
It depends...
I've always favored 24. It is evenly divisible by so many of it's preceding numbers. Also, it is my birthday (tomorrow) and was my first wedding anniversary (July).
I have to go with 42. It was a favorite topic when I would call and talk with Versal.

Mine is: SQRT(SQRT(SQRT(SQRT(SQRT(SQRT(4294967296))))))
🙂
However old my wife happens to be, that year. She is a joy.
What else do you expect from Nate?

1. After all, it is the loneliest number.
It depends...
Happy Birthday! It's mine tomorrow too! (46). My favorite number has always been half my birthday number (12).
Nice one Steve.
4.
It's commonly used in golf, at least the way I play.

It's in the middle of all of the other numbers...

Hey its my birthday too tomorrow.

It's more elegant like this:
"What could be more mystical than an imaginary number interacting with real numbers to produce nothing?"
- Robert P. Crease
Nobody likes 77? It's a bit selfish I know, but you do get eight more than 69. 😛
