What is your experience with smart phones?

I have a smartphone with Spring running the andriod processor.

My plan in the "Simply Everything" plan.

Everything unlimited, including roaming, internet, email, Sprint live TV, etc and etc for $90 bucks a month.

I can open and view cad files, open and work in word files, etc.

This phone will pick up and use a wireless internet network which is usually faster than 3G, but 3G is pretty dang fast.

I am amazed at the number of free apps available.

I have a scanner app that picks up any police, fire or ems radio in the united states.

I have a pacing and compass app that while it is not perfect due to the phone gps, it gets me within sniffing distance.

I am sure others will do these things and more, but I love mine.

How did we get along without it?

I have the original Droid...on Verizon...unlimited plan.

I love it...I have an metal detector app (its no schonstedt but it works in a pinch)
It on the Android platform, and I get all my Google earth stuff, with navigation and Traffic reports updated constantly..

and yes there's an app for almost everything..wee bit scary if ya ask me!

I can do almost anything on it...and mine is an older model.

As fr as the network any smart phone runs on, that should be based on what best in your area. Verizon seems to be the best nationwide..but that may differ slightly depending on location.

Also if you travel outside the country, most other counties use the GSM system...not a cdma system..

Life changing

I have had a blackberry and Evo? I much preferred my blackberry with Verizon.

Gave my wife a Droid X in place of chocolate and flowers this year. Both are delighted.

I switched 2 weeks ago from a BB Bold on Tmobile to a BB Torch on ATT. So far so good.

Tmobiles Customer service is lacking to say the least.

Droid 2 with Verizon. Just about wipes me bum for me.

I am on my 6th or 7th smartphones....

In my right pocket is my iPhone with AT&T...I love it.

In my left pocket is my Droid X with Verizon...I love it.

I could easily live with either one...but I do like the Droid better ( I find it hard to believe I just said that!)

I have the 3G hotspot enabled, so I have a mobile WiFi hotspot with me everywhere I go..very handy. I am often at customer's offices and need to get on the internet...it is often a hassle to try and connect to their network..with my Droid and hotspot...no worries.

I love the Goggle Maps on both...BUT...the Droid has spoken turn by turn directions on it for free....iPhone...you have to buy an app to get spoken directions.

When on the road, I often do not even get out my laptop.

Now...the Droid won't run Trimble Business Center or Realworks...but it is a fantastic device.

As for coverage, Verizon may be better...but I have found it just depends on where you are.

One more bonus for the Droid....With the 3G hotspot, you can use it for your VRS connection...not so on the iPhone, at least as far as I have found.

And I love the iPhone....

But maybe I love the Droid a tiny bit more.

One more thing...
We have lots of Windows mobile phones out there in use, none of the newest ones, and we are replacing them with Droids.

Some of our guys have Blackberries and love them.

Love my iPhone with AT&T

I use an LG Ally, the least expensive unit Verizon offered last fall ($99 after rebates).

It uses the Android OS and I love it. I'm ashamed, as a geek, that I didn't research the hardware prior to purchasing. Check out memory and CPU specs. While they aren't critical, more power, per dollar, is always better.

Mine has a slider keyboard to mitigate my fat fingered typing style. I have it setup to monitor the office email as I'm often out in the field. The camera rivals most small point and shoot digitals. Browsing and GPS functionality are awesome. Turn by turn navigation through your phone? You gotta love it! I have compass and metal detector apps as well as internet radio and music player programs. It opens pdf's as well.

Unlimited data is $30 added onto the normal voice plan. 3G coverage has surprised me here in upstate NY. There are lots of places that don't have cell coverage, but have data reception. Overall I consider it good.

I see them more as a PDA, which I appreciate. I've never liked cell phones, but I love being able to answer an email from the field. As a phone I think they are cumbersome, heavier and not as loser friendly. But I hate cell phones. If I have to carry one, which I must, I want it to do more.

Droid X on the Verizon network.

A good experience so far, but then, just about any "smartphone" would have offered a bit more than the flip phone I carried for the last decade...

The more other stuff it does the less well it does "phone"...

That is my experience...

But they are fun, cool, and very useful, and I am happy I have one.

I recommend the iphone or droid phones, and get the biggest and newest you can afford.

Obviously service depends on your area...most prefer Verizon around here.
I had the original Droid...awesome phone. Just switched to the Verizon iPhone4, it has a lot more app's, and the "cool factor", but I miss the keyboard on the Droid. Typing was so much faster with it.
The navigation app was better on the Droid also.

Perhaps the iPhone will grow on me though, time will tell.

Android is the up and coming platform.

Yet to find a decent data plan, though...

Love my original Droid!

I just rooted it and installed a custom Gingerbread ROM a few days ago. 🙂

I've rooted my Ally but the Froyo upgrade looks a little more complicated.

I'd hate to brick the bugger.

Well, I don't want to talk you into anything, thus being somewhat responsible, but I read that there are ways to "unbrick" your device and it's actually become quite common.

Don't worry, Wendell, my motto is "Fix it till it's broke."

It's like a 30 step procedure to revert back to stock, push the froyo update while maintaining root and then flash the ROM. I like the extended battery life and the ability do dump the stock bloatware.

I just need half a day and a bottle of Tums 😉
