A good business learns . . .
I would agree with Robert. Their method kept them from stomping on their crank, unlike the recent fiasco at netflix...
there's too many "booze" companies out there
>...except for fast food places such as Micky D's and BK... I do have righteous indignation at them 🙂
I categorize those places as purveyors of industrial byproducts, not food.
I haven't tried Maker's Mark.
I have only a few ounces of Bulleit Frontier Bourbon Whiskey left which is pretty decent stuff. I like their Straight Rye Whiskey quite a bit too.
We are in the age of craft brewers and distillers; there seems to be a lot of demand for better quality product.
There is a distiller down in Alameda that is making a Scottish style single malt and importing un-aged bourbon to be aged here in the Bay Area. Whiskey is big now, even the French are making whiskey.
Maker's Mark is good stuff. That's would be my first choice, with Bushmills being my second.
There is a guy making small batch organic rye in Loudoun County. I think its Catoctin Distillery
Marketing
I guess the marketing execs have to do something to earn their salaries.
At yule time, I usually make a shoppinglist of spirits for the holidays.
On the list is Dr. McGillicutty's vanilla schnapps, a fine Canadian product.
The label in past years have read
Vanilla “Original Formula”
Vanilla “Intense”
And this year it read
“Raw & Intense “Vanilla
They still have Dr. Mac on the label with his faithful golden retriever and the script "Original Formula"
Price keeps creeping up every year
For under $20, Bushmills white label is about the best choice, it is reasonably smooth and smells like brown sugar to my nose. It can be taken neat.
I got a bottle of Bulleit Rye for $20 on sale at a Nugget Market in Davis. I wouldn't call it smooth but it is spicy and flavorful.
VERY IMPORTANT NEWS . . . indeed
I'm not much of a drinker . . .
I've never been much of a smoker . . .
BUT, I am a consumer of goods and I understand how marketing nothing more than playing consumers like fiddles.
AND I don't understand the very title of the subject . . . "VERY IMPORTANT NEWS", cause I know to many, many people . . . this really is "IMPORTANT", news.
The marketing ploy being employed here on their "ambassadors", to me is most reprehensible . . . talk about playing to the choir.
It truly bothers me to no end when marketing, so openly and so insincerely plays their consumers like fiddles . . . and that it works.
Cutty Sark for when I want to know I'm drinking scotch, and Jamison's for when I want some smooth whiskey...
VERY IMPORTANT NEWS . . . indeed

I was blind but now I see. When I signed up online to become a Maker’s Mark Ambassador, I never realized it was a crass marketing ploy.
So you’re saying that by plying me with their branded trinkets and encouraging me to attend their events, they never really cared about me as a person? I never would have guessed; I thought I was special to them. I don’t know if I can ever bring myself to love a corporation again.
VERY IMPORTANT NEWS . . . indeed
"I'm not much of a drinker . . ."
who would have guessed.
I stand by my title, and accept all who stand with me, until we can no longer stand.

Jameson is my choice for Irish Coffee. I think it goes better with coffee than Bushmills.
Never tried Maker's Mark. Will put it on my list.
No to Rum & Scotch, not a sailor be I.
Jamison & 8yr Old Charter for me.
VERY IMPORTANT NEWS . . . indeed
Obviously . . . the problem with American consumers are the consumers . . .
There's a reason why marketing is a science . . . I see it all through this thread.

Science huh; back when I was writing political ads for a living I always thought it was one of the "Dark Arts"
None of this stuff will ever substitute for rum...
Yeah, but that's like comparing apples and oranges...sometimes you want to eat and apple and sometimes you want to eat an orange. 😉
:good:
I Like Sailor Jerry's , Current Bottle 1/2 Full
Nice sipping flavor, neat or rocks.

I'm not a big lover of Scotch either, I generally prefer Irish, but this 16 year old Lagamulin my daughter's Father-in-Law gave is some pretty damned good stuff, smooth as silk. The smokey flavor is there but it is subtle.
