A little research on the "Internet Wayback Machine" shows that this May it will twenty years that some of us have been attacking, insulting, belittling, and otherwise annoying each other on the internet.

I think Mr. Deal would be proud of where we are today. Agree or disagree, this site is much more civil and, I believe, exchanges more information.

I agree; this site is much more civil.

I disagree; I see less information.

Probably the same amount of good information, but definitely less information.....
I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just saying I waste a lot less time here.....

Aw, come on, Radar. You know this is the hub of the universe. It's like a giant crystal ball. Sees all, knows all. You just have to ask.

Those of us who have been around for a long time sometimes may grow weary of the same topic over and over. The main thing, though, is that new people join in. They haven't seen the earlier rounds of debate and commentary on every subject under the sun. Those who missed the pipe versus the stone missed a great thread. Even Keith's rampage using the term bogus was good for a long time.

We can do without the rantings of Hub Northing and Flatus Grande (or whatever it was). Nearly Normal was entertaining so long as you realized it either wasn't serious or he was off his meds. I miss some of the sage, older voices who have left us for that big survey job in the sky. Heck, I miss some of those who grew weary of the P&R BS years ago and took off in a huff. There have been hundreds of great posters to follow and a few to ignore.

Don't get me wrong, I agree; this place is the best place for information on the whole internet. I'm just saying that there is a lot less useless, trivial, ad nauseam information. You know, like there used to....

I knew Mark personally. He left way too early because it seemed like he had so much still to get done. He was really excited to get RPLS.com up and running.

One thing I can say is that we have continued on with the spirit and function that Mark wanted so much; for a format on which we all could kick ideas around and ask questions of others of our kind. Mark saw a need for that and made it happen. When POB bought the RPLS.com domain from him I think Mark wanted to see it continue to be a media where surveyors could get together.

Knowing Mark like I did, I'd like to think that if he were still with us today...he'd be here on SurveyorConnect....and probably NO place else...;-)
