Taking small vacation and wondering if there is anyone in the area that would like to meet and chit-chat this week.

Dale Yawn is the only RPLS poster from the Savannah area that I know of. Unfortunately I'm about 250 miles northwest of you.

Bummer. I've been looking for survey caps everywhere I go. Found several nails in sidewalks (possible TP). See pink flagging. Might investigate those if the wife permits me

Yup, that's a surveyor's vacation.
My wife is quite cooperative when we have extra time on a trip. Last weekend on a trip to to visit relatives I got to look for a dozen bench marks. She enjoyed the visit to a very old church where we found a triangulation station and she got a tour of the ornate building.
My son lives in Savannah but I'm not due for a trip south until late fall, early winter. But, make sure that you get something to eat at the Crab
Shack! Great place, and fun, too.....
Go checkout Fort Polaski. There is a Coast and Geodetic Survey Monument in one of the corners at the top of the fort, "Fort Polaski". Awesome views from there. I surveyed the centerline of the dike surrounding the island there a year or two ago. On extra high tides they get some flooding.
BTW - the highway between Savannah and Tybee floods on bigger high tides. Sometimes they close the road. There's an +8-ft tide around 1100 tonight. Keep an eye on the clock if you go downtown for dinner.
I 2nd the visit to Fort Pulaski! They have a great demonstration team!
Thanks for the suggestions. Been here 4 times and find lots of things to do.

We have found that bicycle riding on and around the island is a blast. There is (or was) a nice trail from the island across the marsh to the mainland.
Scott,
Sorry I missed your post. You still down here? I normally don't check this forum, just a couple of the other ones. If you are, drop a line on here, and I'll get in touch with you.
Dale
Hey Dale, we already came home. Next time I will look you up.

Isn't that like four million miles from Raton in more ways than one????
Nearly 1,700 miles one way and yes... a long way. But the location is awesome and I was able to relax. Have taken several different routes too. This year went up to Nashville and then down.
It's most of a mile downhill, too.

Vertically - yes. Horizontal - no. Didn't experience any low altitude sickness either... hmmm???
