I'd go with Hank, but you might consider some sage advice...

I had a dog and his name was King
I told the dog about everything
Old King sure meant a lot to me
But that hound dog is history.

That old King was a friend of mine
Never knew a dog that was half as fine
I may find one, you never do know
'Cause I still got a long way to go.

King went a-howlin' after deer
Wasn't scared of jumpin' off the truck in high gear
King went a-sniffin' and he would go
Was the best old hound dog I ever did know.

Blue....that'll confuse everyone, but, it's simple and easy to say.
.
.
.
.
I had an old dog and his name was Blue
I had me a dog and his name was Blue
Well I had an old dog and his name was Blue
I'll betcha five dollars he's a good one too
Singing "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

Well, Old Blue's feet was big and round
Old Blue's feet was big and round
Old Blue's feet was big and round
He never 'lowed a possum to touch the ground
Well he treed a possum in a hollow log
You could tell from that he was a good old dog
I said "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

I'll take my axe and I'll take my horn
And get me a possum in the new-grown corn.
Well Old Blue barked and I went to see
And he had a possum up in a tree
Well the possum crawled out on the limb
Blue barked, the possum, possum growled at him
Singing "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

Well Blue what makes your eyes so red
Blue what makes your eyes so red
Blue what makes your eyes so red
You run that possum till you're almost dead
Singing "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

When old Blue died he died so hard
He shook the ground in my back yard
So I dug his grave with a silver spade
Land owered him down with a golden chain
And every link I did call his name
I said "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

Now everytime I hear Blue bark
Everytime I hear Blue bark
Everytime I hear Blue bark
He's treeing possums in Noah's ark
Singing "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

Well I will tell you so you'll know
I'm gonna tell you so you'll know
I'm gonna tell you so you'll know
That Old Blue's gone where the good dogs go
Singing "Ya-ho Blue, you good dog you"

I, too, think that a dog should have a one syllable name....I like Hank.

I think you should have the dog around for a day or so and see what name fits the dog best.

One of our dogs is named Pirate because he steals everything that is not screwed down. To him everything is a toy to be taken out on the deck and played with. If there are no toys around he will bring into the house leaves and sticks that he and our other dog will disassemble in the family room.

Oh, my bad, Hud and Speck are the names of John Mellencamps young boys. I knew they were floating around there somewhere.

Hud is from the Paul Newman movie of that name, a great flick. If you watch it with Mellencamp in mind, you will hear more than a few lines and themes from his songs.

I just polled my family

Oreo was the consensus favorite, with Scout being second.

My wife saw the picture from the other thread and immediatly said "His name is Scout!", and this before seeing your list.

She also said "He's definitely NOT a Hank!"

Honorable mentions were:

Hank (oldest daughter HAD to disagree with mom... the next few years are gonna be hell!)

Scout (2nd place)
Bullit (wife is going nuts over misspelling - aaaggghhh)
and
Ruger
