3 AM is a good time to get your shopping done around here.?ÿ Just thought I'd let you all know the world out there is still insane.?ÿ We seem to have a good supply of real food stuffs like rice and beans, but I live in a college town and the average age is probably closer to 30 than anywhere else.?ÿ If you can grab it, tear it open and eat it, it's in short supply.?ÿ?ÿ

And the TP aisle was bare as usual.?ÿ The older "LIMIT 2 PLEASE" sign has been replaced with one that reads "IF YOU DON'T SEE IT, WE DON'T HAVE IT".

The glaring eminence I felt was the wary silence.?ÿ I saw two shoppers slowly passing each other in the aisle with glances of mistrust, like dogs sizing up each other from a safe distance.?ÿ And I saw a young couple that had probably driven in from some distant rural area.?ÿ The mud on their boots matched the mud on a '81 F350 out in the parking lot.?ÿ "Bubba" was dressed in his finest deer hunting camo.?ÿ His wife's vest of pink camo was a quaint touch.?ÿ I felt under-dessed in my flannel jammie bottoms, hoodie and slippers.?ÿ They had two full carts in tow.?ÿ I would assume they have children.?ÿ Nobody can eat that much Cap'n Crunch by themselves.

But the "shopper-of-the-week" was Meemaw.?ÿ She probably had 10 years on me.?ÿ She was tottering around at a snail's pace complete with blue nitrile gloves and a paper breather that made her look like she was fixin' to tear out some sheet rock.?ÿ I couldn't help but notice her cart's contents.?ÿ She had at least 10 half-gallon containers of ice cream.?ÿ Our eye's met briefly and we exchanged a quiet but distant smile.?ÿ I had to ask..."no chocolate syrup?"?ÿ She stopped.?ÿ Made a gesture like she was snapping her fingers and wheeled around to head back to the freezer section.?ÿ

Glad I could be of service. 😉

Three o'clock used to come twice a day back in my glory days.?ÿ The only chance of that now is if I look at the clock on a bathroom trip in the middle of the night.

This reported by someone who didn't turn in until 1:18 a.m.

I do not.?ÿ Repeat.?ÿ I do not.........want to meet anyone in the grocery store at any hour who is wearing pajama bottoms, a hoodie and slippers.?ÿ I don't care if they are young, cute, female.?ÿ NO!?ÿ I would probably create a scene my mentioning their mama and her inability to properly train her descendant in proper attire to be worn outside the house.?ÿ The older I become the more likely I am to start such a debate.?ÿ NOW.......GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!

Told Mrs. Cow the story about the old lady/ice cream/no chocolate syrup.?ÿ She loved it.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell my wife:  My "outdoor" flannel jammie bottoms are equipped with a button fly, as opposed to several other pairs I own.  This equipment makes them perfectly legal to wear anywhere I please.  😉

There was a story on the local news last night that a twenty-something guy had walked into a convenience store and asked how many gallons of milk and dozens of eggs they had. He paid for whatever the total was, then only took 1 gallon and 1 carton of eggs, leaving the rest to be taken by whoever needed it. Sounds like a good idea for ice cream too.?ÿ

Made a trip to the grocery yesterday, late afternoon. We are in "Shelter in Place" mode in Oregon. The place was both quieter and more put together than it has been in weeks. The only aisle that was decimated was the paper products, which was completely barren.?ÿ

I note that the fresh fruits and vegetables are the only part of the store that has remained fully stocked throughout this business.

Our local grocery store here is HEB. There is an HEB in southwest Austin, near Circle C (for those who don't know, it's a ritzy type neighborhood) that is very well stocked BUT still no paper products. Also, HEB is limited to the number of occupants to their stores so the wait was less than 2 minutes, yesterday at 4:40pm local time.

As far as pajama bottoms and slippers being seen in the grocery....it's a daily occurrence here and you get use to so many things when you see them day in and day out.

Stay safe out there kids!

That's it! I'm going for the new "Austin" look.

Seriously though, Norman is a college town also.?ÿ That shabby homeless fella in the checkout line may very well be a tenured professor.

Put your britches on.?ÿ Who would want to be thought of as possibly being as batty as a tenured professor??ÿ Especially one with degrees from the College of Arts and Parties.?ÿ They weren't normal when they were born, let alone 70 years later.

All of our grocery stores have been closed overnight for the last week to allow them time to clean and restock.?ÿ They've been opening at 7 am and have a rotating 65+ only time slot in the morning.?ÿ My wife and I are fine on essentials including TP but both our sisters were running low so Monday morning we split up and tried 2 different stores at 7 am in hopes of doubling our odds.?ÿ It was super strange standing around with others near the door waiting for them to open.?ÿ Everyone really was sizing each other up and making their fight or flight decisions.?ÿ I don't know how this compares to the mistrust our society endured with the communist spies but I don't like it!
