Out of all the things that could possibly take me to Heaven I would have never imagined my obit might read that I passed from "marzipan candy poisoning'.?ÿ A comedy of fate lead to several Christmas tins of this toxic candy being delivered from far-away well meaning relatives.?ÿ The Swiss Colony should be listed as a terrorist organization.
I don't guess it's really any more deadly than the usual peanut brittle or fudge.?ÿ But I never remember stashing the last couple of pieces of fudge so I could get back to them later...And there's still one box left.?ÿ That might get me through 'til sundown.?ÿ I'm sure I've destroyed my A1C for the next six months.
The cold-turkey withdrawals are going to be unbearable.?ÿ Aren't the holidays grand??ÿ 😉
We're still munching on Christmas dinner leftovers. Makes great turkey sandwiches! ?????ÿ
As I read this I finished off the last of a tin of "Chex" snack mix.?ÿ I'm sure I got a week's worth of sodium there.
... I'm sure I got a week's worth of sodium there.
No kidding.?ÿ I've puffed up like a tick from the huge Christmas ham we're still working on....and after eating a piece ham I have to have another piece of marzipan!
marzipan candy
We make it homemade during the 4th of July. Buy 'em (Almonds) fresh in the shell then I get to boil and shuck them, then the blender and SWMBO take over. Meanwhile, "back at the ranch" I'm melting' semi sweet, milk, and white chocolate for dippin'. And yes I loose control of my mouth and stomach simultaneously and then my colon get's pissed off . Imagine that! Don't know what she does with it after the blender (cruiseamart?) but I know the Rose Water that goes in it comes from Turkey and cost about $10/oz. more than beer. ?????ÿ
Did you get the kind in a box shaped like little fruits? (The ones they spray paint) ????
I think it may be the first holiday season I actually lost weight. Walking through the magic kingdom with 5 energic young'uns left me feeling almost spry by the end of the ordeal. That and no wish to consume airport food was a good thing,,,,,,,,,I guess.?ÿ
One of those step counter thingys said we averaged 11 miles a day,,,,, not sure about that, but there was no lack of stepping.?ÿ
Am scheduled for my next A1C check on January 12.?ÿ Probably not going to be low enough to satisfy the doctor.?ÿ Rotten time of year for checking such statistics.
I had to Google "marzipan".
Sounds good
?ÿ
I've got a pack of Reese's peanut butter cups still waiting on me.

That's the ones.?ÿ But I didn't stop and really look or notice each piece until the second box.?ÿ Confectioner's heroin.?ÿ I'm a full-fledged junkie now.
I googled and looked at images. Some of that stuff looks like a few of the toppings on those little cakes at the China Buffet.
Sweets that ring a bell for me are chocolate, nuts, peanut butter or coconut in chocolate and honey.
I've had quite a few boxes of them also. SWMBO lived in Turkey for 3 years in the sixties. Her Father was with NATO and was stationed in Istanbul. She learned how to make it (marzipan) when she was 11.
The stuff we make has a more intense flavor than what is commercially available. I think it's the quality of the Rosewater that alters the intensity. After it's made, (the state the little fruits you've inhaled are in) we submerge it in chocolate. Closest I could come to fruits is maybe an eggplant. I can make really good chocolate turds though. 😯
This is what came up when I googled it:
The most toxic thing you might eat this Christmas is cyanide, in marzipan. Yes, it's true, marzipan contains a source of cyanide, the same stuff you hear about in spy's suicide pills and the pages of murder mystery novels.Dec 22, 2016

Paracelsus, a sixteenth century German Swiss philosopher who brought a new approach to medical and toxicological theory famously wrote, ??The dose makes the poison?
I got a 3lb Hershey bar for Christmas.
I got a very small bag of gluten free black licorice. A little slice of heaven...

That was how I was diagnosed as diabetic 25 or so years ago.?ÿ I lost 15 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas without changing my eating habits.?ÿ My wife said something was wrong and sent me to our doctor.?ÿ Yep, my blood glucose was 600+.?ÿ The strange thing is that my eyesight improved too.?ÿ I had just gotten new specs and by January I couldn't see out of them, back to almost 20/20.

I've been through a bunch of health issues the last 1-1/2 years, but at least I'm not diabetic. I did need to lose weight, THAT isn't easy as you get older.
Diet is the best way I've found out, exercise seems to help maintain, but I can't seem to lose just by exercise no matter how much I do.
Problem is I like to eat too much 🙁
My eyes are also getting a bit better as I age, even need the readers less, but better is a low bar for me, no where near 20/20.
I know what you mean. I've got it even worse, I'm insulin resistant. What that means is that I have to take at least twice what the "normal" person would, and the extra insulin causes me to store more fat. Exercise is the key though, the more I exercise the less insulin I need. Now I've just got to get up and walk, and walk, and walk... At least my dogs enjoy the extra exercise (grin).
