Tablet data collector

Not a Mesa 2 but we are using Getac T800 so far they are very nice to use other than the added weight and bulk. I think whether or not you should get a tablet depends on the work you do. If you are doing alot of layout then its hard to beat a windows 10 tablet, it handles reference files alot better, it handles big project files alot better, it can store and view PDF's alot better, and it reduces screen clutter. If I only did boundary and topo work I don't think i could justify the added weight and size. Just my opinion. Although there are some pretty slick new phone/phablet options out hopefully some of the manufacturers see the light and start providing Android compatible software but in the mean time there are some really nice windows 10 options.

I've been using the Carlson RT3 version of the Mesa 2 for about 6 months. Running Carlson CE.

I was afraid of the size and weight until I got it mounted on the rod. Same as the old Rangers I have used for decades. I was leery of the virtual keyboard, too, but that fear went away after a few hours. Screen real estate is worth any other inconvenience that might come along, IMHO.

I've toyed with Dragon Naturally speaking as a means of entering codes and commands during data collection. I was doing this as I was learning the new software and hardware combination and I began to have issues. I got it to work about 75% of the time. I am going to try different headsets to see if the voice recognition improves. Data collection with one button push to initiate a shot and another to store, without looking at the screen keyboard: Awesome!

I should have done this much sooner.

I've been thinking about the Leica CS35 which is just a Panasonic ToughPad.

Do Lieca use the newest version of the ToughPad as Panasonic now offers it with 8gb ram a 256gb SSD and the newer supposedly more power efficient m series processors which are just the mobile version of the i series

Look into the trimble Kenai tablet
