Saint Louie,
Re: Portland - Powell's Book store is not only the best attraction in Stump Town, there are TWO survey disks in the concrete floors of the multi-storied building. Find them or turn in your plumbbob.?ÿ
Driving from Portland to Bend I recommend taking hwy. 26 over Mount Hood(instead of down I5 to Salem and then over the Santiam Pass). A brief detour at the top of the pass just the other side of Government Camp will take you to Timberline Lodge. It's a ski area and a hotel, and on a clear day the views are ?ÿunparalleled.?ÿ
In Bend, if you are going to Deschutes Brewery, you'll also want to hit the the Bend Brewing Company... a couple blocks to the west. They have a great outdoor park-like lawn next to the Deschutes River, beautiful view of the river and lots of picnic tables, a food truck or two, beer in plastic cups, etc. This is where most folks of my generation go to get away from the snow-board groove-on's and tourists at Deschutes Brewery. Elk Lake IPA is a local favorite as well as some of their big IBU hop-centric beers. They also have started a fun series of canned beer. The Camp Beer is probably like what the domestic yellow beers of today were like back when Pabst and all the other German brewers were making real beer in the 1890s. Both Deschutes and Bend Brewing have good buffalo wings.?ÿ
A short walk to the east will get you to Silver Moon Brewery. A cinder block building next to the expressway, full of fun. The IPA 97 is a fine beer.?ÿ
To the southwest of town the Cascade Lakes Highway (AKA Century Drive) will get you to snow capped peaks and high mountain lakes in about 20+ miles. Todd Lake, just past Mt. Bachelor Ski area, has trail heads to get you to subalpine/timberline meadows in a couple miles of walking. Elk Lake has a lodge and marina where you can rent kayaks or paddle boards. I could go on for a couple more pages but I'll leave it at that. I'll be retired by July and probably looking for an excuse not to catch up on decades of neglected chores around the house, so get in touch with me if you want more details.?ÿ

Good call on the Mt. Hood Route to Bend. Besides Mt Hood itself there is the Deschutes River and Crooked River Canyon on that route. But the Santiam Pass route has it's charms, also. Sisters, Hoo Doo Ski Area, Santiam River, Detroit Dam.?ÿ?ÿ
Sounds like we should just move to the Portland area. So much to do and see and eat and drink - I can't wait!

Tacoma, a suburb of Puyallup, is the hottest housing market in the nation.
Plenty of work to go around and the weather is nice; just don't tell anybody else; it's a secret.
It rains a lot, and we are expected to work in it.

Is that a suntan you have or rust?
Adding to the list - the last Blockbuster video store is located in Bend, Oregon.?ÿ
