My mother in law usually spends August on Prince Edward Island (PEI) and has, forever, been after us to come visit while she's there with her Partner/friend Richard. The past couple of years she has had a house on Main Street in Victoria, a quaint little village and harbor. This year it was "bring the dogs!"

Her health is declining, kind of quickly for a late 60's woman, and my wife has been very concerned about her, and the depression that she has been exhibiting. So last Friday, over lunch, SWMBO and I were talking and we decided to drive up there that night and return on Tuesday losing only two work days but gaining three at PEI. It was a 12 hour drive, and we left at 630PM Friday, drove straight through, crossing the border at about 230AM Saturday morning, and arriving in time for breakfast around 730 local time (Atlantic.)

What a wonderful place. For those of you that don't know me well, you probably don't know that I spent my early childhood in ND at Minot AFB, so cold weather and snow aren't really strangers to me. But after living on Cape Cod almost since 1968 I have developed a love of the ocean and sailing. PEI has all of that, it's almost like the Cape was when we moved here, except much more agriculture, and Bigger!

One thing that I love about Canada is that the people are so nice. Sometimes you run across the characterization of this in the most unusual places, such as No Trespassing signs. (where else can you buy a no trespassing sign with a smiley face built in!)

The red beaches and small cliffs were dramatic, and the fact that private ownership runs to the High Water Mark makes the beaches very accessible. Also, none of those "No Dog" signs.

We did some exploring during our three days, including a trip to the north side and Melpaque for lunch at the Oyster Bar. This was my view.

My view was much enhanced by the addition of SWMBO

I have even gone so far as to pick out my new home. Perhaps with some help from my brother in law we can turn it into a two or three family home.

As the sign says, in typical Canadian fashion,

I could probably live there during August, but the first flake of snow would send me south. Beautiful scenery.

I forgot the obligatory "Busman's holiday" photo's. Of course I found the benchmark for the Pier, and the Station for the lighthouse.

Once you move in, maybe some of us could come by on Thanksgiving and take care of your garbage for ya. We'll have to work out who will supply shovels, rakes and other implements of destruction.

so long as it's appropriately disposed of and I don't have to deal with any 8x10 glossies of it later!

That won't matter, justice is blind.

I camped there in the early 70's. The people were super friendly and the scenery beautiful. I was told that the water was warmer on PEI than anywhere else in Canada due to the gulf stream being close by. I tried the water 1 time and decide that it was not close enough for me. I would love to go back and visit PEI again.

I was really surprised how warm the water was, at least on the south side where we were staying. It was definitely warmer than the Cape ocean or bay sides, and similar to the Sound side.

Or north side is influenced by the Gulf of Maine and the South is influenced by the Gulf Stream current. I don't see how the Gulf Stream winds it's way to PEI with Nova Scotia in the way. I thought the warmth was due to the shallow water and the tidal flats heating up in the sun.

Looking at a map it looks like you may be right. I remember someone telling me it had to do with the gulf stream and took them at their word. A Surveyor should know better.
