The news about RADU got me thinking of others that used to post quite a bit but have fallen off the radar.?ÿ
?ÿ
Anyone have info on Bruce Small from Tucson??ÿ I always enjoyed his posts and even tried to use his personal data collection system (I failed).?ÿ?ÿ

Indeed! I'm in contact with him at least once a month. ???? I can tell him you are looking for him...
That's great!?ÿ?ÿ
I liked reading Mr. Jerry Penry posts about?ÿ his surveying jaunts and WWII research. I follow him on American Surveyor. Here his latest articles

Don Blameuser, Chris Wickern, Trimble Man, Sam Clemons, Ty Olenhouse, Paul Cook, Ian Wilson, Jim Petty, Spur4$, and a hundred more could really help us out here if they were to find their way back. ?ÿA few other names come to mind, but they were experts at stirring up major trouble resulting in some posters leaving permanently.
I still hear from Paul Cook occasionally.?ÿ He is is still in the Santa Barbara area.?ÿ Ian Wilson is now the County Surveyor for San Mateo County in the Bay area and still around.
Several reasons for not posting of late. I have my legacy programs on my old XP which I use every day for my surveying business, but because it is old and I have security turned way up connecting from it is difficult and usually impossible. I do have a new laptop which connects just great but that??s not as convenient as the old XP. And, I??m really busy surveying. To catch up from the past, sort of like a Christmas letter, with some frivolity:
I??m Chair of the fire district and Wendell handles our website so we are in monthly communication. I applied my efficiency to running the district, cut expenses, and have the bi-monthly meetings down to eight (8) minutes.
I??m also President of our HOA, where I cut expenses and for the first time in memory we actually brought in more from dues than we spent on necessaries.
(For those of you who have followed my posts over the years, I am really big on efficiency, which makes life so much easier, and in my survey business increases the bottom line.)
We spent two weeks in June touring Israel, the most amazing country. That was the vacation of a lifetime and I strongly recommend it. The historical sites are incredible, and I did float on the Dead Sea. I??m going back next year, treating my daughter Cathy to a well deserved vacation. It was very safe and you get used to seeing teenage girls in sandals carrying M-16s. They are serious about security, which is why it is safe. The food was incredible, all of us pigged out, and I??m still trying to lose the several pounds I gained. Feel free to post any questions about Israel travel. If it isn??t on your bucket list, add it at the top.
Just back from Maine and a visit with Cathy and family, where I learned the names of almost all of the chickens and ducks, but not the guinea hens. Strawberry the chicken was born blind and had malformed feet, so Cathy rigged up a sling for her so she could rest and develop her feet, and she is now healthy. Strawberry has to be kept separate from the others because hens are murderous, and Cathy hand feeds her. Jared the rooster hates my son-in-law and will attack on sight, but Jared seemed to like me.
The survey business is very good and we are doing well. I??m 78, healthy, love what I do, and have never regretted going solo. Surveying is what has kept me healthy, in great physical shape, and debt free.
Only a slight digression: Last year I surveyed my doctor??s lot. I tied in the street brass caps, rotated, and found the five lot monuments in under two hours. Doc told my wife the neighbor had his lot surveyed later and the survey crew spent most of a day scratching their heads and wandering round. You wonder why some surveyors can??t make a decent living? If they looked they had my record of survey to guide them, and the old subdivision plat was well done.
I am full of lust for the new Corvette.

Excellent to hear from you, Bruce!?ÿ You are an inspiration.?ÿ I only wish I had been able to implement your field to finish techniques.?ÿ?ÿ The trips sound fantastic and I'm not surprised your daughter inherited your ingenuity.?ÿ I sold my business in 2017, then the buyers sold to a company based out of Maine.?ÿ So now am trying to find my way in a totally new environment....?ÿ project management at a large firm..?ÿ (not exactly a bastion of efficiency, as you know)

PS.?ÿ I hated having to give up my Toshiba toughbook and windows XP!!?ÿ?ÿ

Totally understand this!
I seem to recall that Ty Olenhouse?ÿ (not sure of the spelling) found himself in some kind of legal snafu and I don't remember what it was but it was serious.
Oilinghouse maybe or Olinghouse?
My bad. ?ÿIt is Olinghouse. not Olenhouse.
He was having significant marital discord during the time he was posting. ?ÿDon't recall anything worse, but it has been a long time.
I think you're thinking of Ty Evans (Hub Northing); he's in Federal Prison. Tried to strangle a young girl right before he was going to rob a pot growing operation in French Lick Indiana...
Lots of drama; back in the day...
We had a bunch of guys who liked to stir the pot: Dave Smith, MLB, Mike Falk, Bill Strange, just to name a few...
It was like going to a rowdy bar; never knew when a fight was going to break out.
Once upon a time we had several Alaskan and Canadian posters as regulars. ?ÿDerek Graham, also known as TNAI, was a great contributor.

Ty Olinghouse is registered (twice) but hasn't posted in 9 years.
Yeah, as soon as I took out P&R, several people disappeared, because that's all they talked about...
The late Bill Strange was an eminent geodesist. n'uf said. Mr. Geodesist.
I believe back in the day he posted?ÿ geodesy and GPS primers on the message board for the unwashed participants.?ÿ

Ty had history (and two kids and an ex-wife) here in Oklahoma.?ÿ For a few years I would hear from him irregularly (I've had the same cell number for 20 years).?ÿ He's no longer even listed on the State Board's roster which is odd.
One local fella that was closer to Ty than myself recently told me Ty was homeless and living on the beach in Florida.?ÿ Who knows how reliable info like that is.
Ty used to post on Facebook, but I haven't seen anything from him in quite awhile.?ÿ I think he moved to Florida, and was living in a tent last I heard, maybe trying to make it as a musician.
?ÿ
Bill was a wonderful resource.
You can say that again...
I copied several of Bill's posts and saved them for future reference.?ÿ
