It's been raining for a couple of days with rain forecast everyday through Sunday. This time the weather guessers have been fairly correct and they got the forecast right.

Since fieldwork is out of the question I decided to turn my alarm off and get some extra sleep.?ÿ

I just woke up 20 minutes ago. Is this what it feels like to be retired? Sorry and good for nothing.

Wish it was either warm enough here for a simple rain or cold enough for snow.?ÿ Our forecast is for mixed snow and/or freezing rain.

I havent seen much field work or construction being done around here.

Not that we need any more snow, as the piles on each side of the driveway are so high it's hard to push the scoop over them.

?ÿI call myself semi-retired at 49 yo. ?ÿGeneral hours 10-2. ?ÿGotta pace myself since I still have 49 years to go.

@Brad Ott

I've finally whittled it down to 8:30 - 10:00. Even then I really don't have much to do. The office runs itself without me. And that's fine with me. Fine unless profits aren't rising. We are so busy with the production housing companies we are turning a lot of work away because of the job market.?ÿ

I love it (partial retirement) and have plenty of old men toys to keep me frustrated and occupied until I croak the bucket.?ÿ ?????ÿ

You just need a dog or two.?ÿ Their internal alarm goes off at the same time every day, week day, weekend, vacation, whatever.?ÿ At 05:30 it's time to get up and let them out, give them a treat and scratch their heads and backs.?ÿ THEN you can get a cup of coffee.

No I do not need a dog and especially not two.

Maybe when I am retired I will get a dog but the last thing I want so long as I have to work for a living is a animal that I cannot eat but instead have to care for and spend money on and schedule my life around. And scoop poop, I will not scoop poop. If it cannot use a toilet then I don't want it.?ÿ

It's incredible how humans, the animal at the top of Earth's food chain, have been reduced to picking up dog turds.?ÿ I will eat my shoes before I pick up a dog turd.

By my figuring, my hounds will likely add a good 5-15 years to my time on this earth. Reasons are many. They routinely get me off the couch and outside, taking me for long daily walks, even when the weather is crummy and I don't feel like going or I'm just lazy. When I get home they're always 100% jazzed to see me. Can't say that of most people. But most important of all, they've schooled me to let go of the petty BS crap that causes me daily stress and just enjoy living in the moment. Have to say I'd choose their company over most people any day and if that involves scooping a dog turd here and there so some poor kid doesn't step in it, guess I'm just okay with that. Seems a small price.

My dogs have given me great joy and taught me many lessons. I'd rather pick up turds than waste my time on two-faced drama any day of the week...

I have a very good friend - retired doctor and professional dog breeder who Iƒ??ve heard opine that ?ÿcouples shouldnƒ??t have kids until theyƒ??ve successfully raised a dog....

If you don't think your dog loves you more than your wife, lock them both in the trunk of the car for five minutes and see which one is happy to see you when you open the trunk. :), Jp

I do think dogs are great and I look forward to having one again sometime.?ÿ I think it's amusing though how trillions of animals are crapping everywhere-- birds, squirrels, deer, you name it, and nobody goes around picking that stuff up but for some reason we have this zeitgeist around the dog turd.

Those wild critters don't crap very much on the sidewalks or front lawns. Doggies do, and the doo-doo does begin to pile up over time.

A close relative recently lived in Vancouver, where apparently they have a lot of designated public dog runs, and correspondingly a lot of dog-no-go-zones. So one morning she's confronted with a couple gaily exercising their dog in a no-go-zone, and when she called them out about it, got slapped across the face with a plastic bag of dog doo. So bagging the stuff up can be problematic.

Snow on the ground here nearly half the year is something of a blessing and a curse. One blessing is it keeps the hounds from tracking all the forest detritus into the house and makes ticks and other parasites virtually unknown around here. The curse is it covers and preserves a winter's worth of dog poo, until spring breakup when it all erupts at once out of the melting snow as fresh and aromatic as the day it was deposited.?ÿ

As long as I get on the clean up before?ÿthe big thaw it's all good and more over, I'd prefer dealing with that then some particular human personalities I find all the more offensive.?ÿ
