This is what I wish I were reading
This what I'm actually reading:
He tasks me; he heaps me; I see in him outrageous strength, with an inscrutable malice sinewing it. That inscrutable thing is chiefly what I hate; and be the white whale agent, or be the white whale principal, I will wreak that hate upon him.
I'm not giving up.

Oh,that was Ahab, by the way:-)

The Great Gatsby
By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Gatsby: Daisy, I made all this money for you, because I love you.
Daisy: I cannot reciprocate, because I represent the American Dream.
Gatsby: Now I must die, because I also represent the American Dream.
(Gatsby DIES.)
Nick: I hate New Yorkers.
The Confessions of St. Augustine
By St. Augustine
St. Augustine: I was a bad boy. Damn, was I a bad boy. Not anymore, though.

If On a Winter's Night a Traveler
By Italo Calvino
You think you're reading a condensation of If On a Winter's Night a Traveler, but you're not.
THE END
I loved those Classic comic books when I was a kid. Practically almost the same as reading the book, almost.
Seriously, they got a lot of us interested in the classics, and that is a real plus.
Anybody remember the Mad Magazine version...
Morbid Dick
"Call me Fishmeal."
Moby Dick is one of my favorite books. Ahab should have been a surveyor relentlessly pursuing the property corner...
:good: :good:
Sorry, Moby Dick again>Sam
Ahab probably did practice a bit of surveying at some point! Seems like everyone did back then!!
"During the 1830's Herman worked on a variety of jobs. Initially he clerked in a bank and later in the family's fur and cap business, then run by Herman's older brother Gansevoort Melville. He also did some school teaching in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and worked on his uncle's farm. He also studied at Landingsburgh Academy to learn surveying so he could participate in the building of the Erie Canal. He was, however, unsuccessful at obtaining a position there."
I loved Classic Comics too. But there came a time, I don't remember when exactly, that the editors decided to use more of the original's words and fewer comic-style substitutions. So Lady Macbeth actually said "Out, out, damned spot" instead of "Eek!" and Hamlet actually said "O what a rogue and peasant slave am I" instead of "Argh!" Thus did some of the magic evaporate from Classic Comics.
Cheers,
Henry
Didn't they name a venereal disease after that book? 😀
Have a great week.
This is pretty neat.
It seems that Moby Dick has played a part in a lot of people's lives in one way or another.
I'm glad that I'm finally getting around to it myself.
Thanks for all the fun and interesting input.
