One of the 3 surveyors among the 4 consummate politicians etched into Mt. Rushmore. Lincoln, arguably the most masterful politician of the bunch, was a great leader and a giant among men.
The movie wasn't too bad either. 😉

We saw the movie and it was good, but I have no idea how historically accurate it was.

It was, after all, made in Hollywood.

One minor flaw in the movie

Sally Field, at age 66, is about 20 years older than Mary Todd Lincoln in 1865. They did nothing to make her appear to be closer to 45. Tad Lincoln was far too young to have a 66 year-old birth mother.

I have travelled up and down the Central Valley of  California these past few days and one thing I noticed, after passing dozens of dairy farms, is the attitude of of the cows. They really tend to take themselves way too seriously.

Otherwise, though, they're friendly enough.

Don

Edit. I forgot the smiley:-)

Same here. But I hope it was as accurate as could be.

I liked it because Abe is my favorite president (and was left handed) and because I like American History and the old stuff from that era. (Uniforms, decor, etc....) Now, the 4 young dudes that were watching it a few rows down from us were pissed and said it was "boring" and walked out about 20 minutes into the movie. 😐 Oh well.

Y'all got me wanting to see it. My wife doesn't want to sit through 2-½ hrs. Maybe I'll talk her into it.

It is a good movie, but I have yet to meet a movie which can't wait until it comes out on DVD. Especially longer movies when taking a snack/ potty/ stretch break can become important.....

Good point. I think this is one of those that you guys could wait for it to come out on DVD and watch...I would do it that way if I watched it again because between the previews and other stuff, the movie goes about 3 hours. At least at home I can pause it to go pee and refill my water. 🙂

...Or go to bed if you're tired, and finish the next day; pause if you have a comment or conversation, play back if you missed something, have the best (or one of the best) seat/s in the house, turn it up or down as loud as you want, replay to see what they really did say if you and your partner don't agree, stop some credits if you wanted to see who that one actor was, only pay 1 to 3 dollars for everyone to watch at once or to watch more than once, pay less than $20 for two popcorns and two cokes (or have a dang beer if that suits your fancy).....etc. (okay, I had several "replay" examples.

Yep, I am thinking that way myself. Go to the movies for something that would be great special effects or 3d on the big screen.

Good points. I am going to wait on the extra-long Lincoln movie I think to come out on dvd.

Even for great 3d effects, I am quite willing to wait for the DVD. Though not a huge screen, my TV and sound system provides what to need to see/ hear movies in the comfort of my own home.

Additional: I saw Lincoln in a theater in Florida with family. Haven't set foot in a theater for probably 15 years. Found I had not missed a thing (speaking strictly for myself of course). Since my brother paid for my ticket and we had no snacks, that helped the cost end on my part....
