....we are visiting the in-laws, and the three year old niece is here. We have watched the feature-length, cartoon version of "Thumbalina" three times in the last 24 hours...and it's a dry house!

Maybe take a taxi to the nearest pub?

HAH!!!!

I have a 4 year old granddaughter and I can sing you every song there is in Mulan, 101 Dalmations and the Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.....

Yep...sometimes you watch the same one over and over...

Relax....look inside your mind...treat it as some Zen meditation...

And slip out for a stiff drink as soon as you can!!!

The bulb in the home theater system is fried.

Don't really care about watching TV, just find myself humming along to the kid movies.

We don't get to see her very often, so it's not a problem, just takes some getting used too. Soon she'll be older and more wise to the ways of the world, and we'll be kinda sorry to see that.

Try renting some OLD movies like Old Yeller, The Call of the North, or even a Marx Brothers movies. My kids were amazed that we watched such good stuff.

True. Kids really appreciate that 'grownups' bother to spend time with them, whether watching their favorite movie, playing a game or reading. As you said, before you know it, getting them to spend time with you will eventually be like pulling teeth...I'm not looking forward to those days.

I second that. The older they get the less time they want to spend with you. 🙁

When our daughter was little we had to watch The Lion King EVERY day. It was a must in our house. This went on for over a year! Us: "Do you want to watch anything ELSE?" Kid: "Sure...but first-The Lion King!!" Ugh we were so Lion Kinged out after that we didn't watch it for years. Then yesterday we saw a trivia question regarding Pumba and Wendell pipes up "Aww we need to watch it again. I'm ready now."

I doubt the kid will want to watch it with us this time...she's turning 17 tomorrow and "Lion King" now takes back burner to all of the "teenager king" stuff. *sniffles* I cannot believe our baby girl will be 17!!! 😐

Ok rant over. For now. 😛

It makes a big difference when it is your own kids. In your situation, all I can say is that I feel your pain.

Dear DJ

I can relate. We have semi retired to move in with the mother in law and be care givers. It is a dry house. Lately we have the grand daughter staying with us. (3 adults, 1 child and a puppy). It can be different. Perhaps purchasing a Mountain Dew and pouring out the remains and replacing with Bud Light might help. Liquor would be easier, however it may put you out for the night. Just make sure the kids know who's drink is who's.

Noodles, Save The Videos For the Grand Children

Ours almost 5 and almost 3. My daughter in law knocks on the door this morning, she walked up to the Church's Fall Festival flea market and forgot the key to her house and Anna has to go to the bathroom. "Sure come on in." I hand my daughter in law her house key and laugh when she says she has to run. "Hello dear, you brought Anna into PopPop's house, you are not leaving for a while."

First thing was to put in the "Care Bear" video, then she had to chase the cat around the house. While ignoring the video, unless you happen to turn it off, she goes to the puzzle pile, first Bert and Ernie, then she goes and sorts through some for Mickey Mouse, then sets some others aside and selects 101 Dalmations. Anna was just showing mommy how to do it, had PopPop been on the floor instead she would have carried over the whole pile and done them all. Finally she convinces her mother she has to use the upstairs potty and I hear her wind up the "It's a Small World" clown dowl that was my wife's mother until she passed. This clown seems to play on it's own now and again and we just say it is Mayola visiting. When they come back down my daughter in law is carrying the barn and the farm animal set. Now this had been 3 years on the living room floor and was just recently moved upstairs to a bedroom. The same bedroom Anna had a nap in last Sunday, so she knew it was there. Done with that Anna has a small bowl of the vegetable soup PopPop had made for the church fall festival. One hour start to finish and then we all walk one block to my wife's church for lunch. My daughter and other grandaughter are already there and a number of other little girls, so let the screaming begin. Anna has her routine and my son knows enough not to step into the house if he has other things to do.

Two children and a lot of yard sales just makes for a bigger happier pile of joys.

And with all that we get less done, but it is a heck of a lot more satisfying.

I'm having a good time, and we go home in a couple of days and won't see her for awhile. We'll miss her, just won't miss the kiddie movies.

I've always been kind of a loner, a full house takes some getting used to.

Being half-deaf has its advantages.

Hehe that was a cute story. I LOVE that name "PopPop"!! Thanks for sharing.

I believe ya about the clown doll playing by itself = Mayola visiting.

Miranda use to chase the cats too. What is it about kids chasing cats? The cats don't seem to mind, though. At least mine didn't. They'd hop in bed with her later. As soon as she woke up she'd torment them but they'd come back for more. Silly felines!! :cat:

Ahhh I wish I had their young energy. I could get a lot done around here. 😛

Veggie soup sounds delicious!! Now I am hungry too. Thanks. hehehe 😉

I can sing this start to finish without music or lyrics, all it takes is listening to it 4289 times, many times 5 and 6 times back to back.....and they wonder why I drink....

the tiny bubbles

the tiny Bubbles -- ok, not so tiny now -- can sing all of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, for the same reasons of heavy viewing rotation.
