I think my washer or dryer is defective as usually they conspire to shrink my pants but I suspect a conspiracy is afoot because now my pants are getting looser to the point I have to wear suspenders.
I've dropped 40 pounds in the last 5 months.?ÿ Grabbing something off of a high shelf can require one hand on my britches to keep them from winding up around my ankles.?ÿ It's funny in the kitchen...it's a crime at Walgreens.
I've noticed if a young man drops a few pounds he receives compliments from others.?ÿ Even though my weight loss is a conscious effort, at my age?ÿI get a few folks that ask, "Are you feeling OK?"
I guess I should be pleased they care enough to mention it.. 😉
Women have been known to buy new clothes, with wrong labels. Mental thing. Maybe she swapped labels on your britches.... Just sayin!
At some point in time, men lose their waist and belts stop being functional.
I 've been trying to drop 40lbs and have been able to lose 15lb by having one meal per day and that is trying to come back because some food groups are difficult to give up.
What's your secret?
Far less food and far fewer carbs and virtually no beer.
Edit: and no dairy except for lactose free milk. The no dairy thing sucks bad. I have developed a bad case of lactose intolerance and cutting out all cheese was the solution.
No beer and no cheese, that fills half my fridge........omg, it is always something impossible that is asked of me.

I actually probably eat (by volume) more than I did before I started my quest to slim down.?ÿ I do eat shovelfuls of vegetables, raw and cooked.?ÿ If you're into puttering around in the kitchen you can come up with some really good stuff.?ÿ?ÿ I still eat eggs, cheese, meats and carbs, but sparingly.?ÿ A 4 oz. steak cutlet is a real treat and really fills me up now.?ÿ I don't eat much bread except a slice of 45 calorie whole grain bread maybe twice a week.
I eat very regular meals starting at about 5:30 am.?ÿ Most meals are usually less than 300 calories. I keep my overall fat intake down to less than 40 or 50 grams a day.?ÿ And I snack on an apple, or a cracker or two and some cheese or nuts in between meals if I get a pang.?ÿ?ÿNothing to eat after 7:00 pm until the next day.?ÿ And drink all the water you can hold. A balanced diet is the key.?ÿ Just start eating all the right stuff and none of the wrong stuff.?ÿ After you figure out what you like and don't like start working on your portion control.?ÿ If your weight is returning when you stray from your diet you're not maintaining things correctly.?ÿ I'm sorry to say it, but at my age there are just some things I don't have any business eating.?ÿ Chicken-fry with cream gravy or biscuits with sausage gravy are good examples.?ÿ And pecan pie is just a distant memory....?ÿ
I've failed miserably before on diets but this time it's working.?ÿ I really don't get hungry between meals.?ÿ
Oh, I forgot to add:?ÿ And even though I still walk a great deal in the field daily, I'm up to 2 miles a day regiment around the park.?ÿ Activity is a key factor in optimizing your I/O, BMI and overall body weight.?ÿ My A1C has magically dropped to acceptable numbers.
And I still get a burger or sub or pizza occasionally if I want.?ÿ I took the grandkids fishing this last Saturday and we stopped for a burger and fries on the way home.?ÿ Probably the first "fast food" I had in three or four weeks.?ÿ Although it tasted great and just like I remembered...I was stuffed and couldn't finish it.?ÿ I farted well into the evening and was miserable.?ÿ
There's better choices when it comes to "fast food" also...I stay away from Mickey-D's but I get anything I want at Subway probably once a week.
A. Harris?ÿ
Experience severe lactose intolerance and you will sing a different tune.?ÿ
I'm actually a bourbon guy though so the no beer thing was easy BUT the no dairy is terrible.?ÿ
Uncle Paden has the recipe.?ÿ Good choices, portion control, moderate activity, and lots of water.?ÿ People forget the water, but it takes more than you may be used (sorry TDD) to in order to burn the stored fat.?ÿ Without the water you will be hungry and tired.

Water and exercise IS so very important to optimizing your metabolism.?ÿ
Weight loss is a really simple formula: burn more calories than you eat. But if your not supplying your burner with the proper fuels you stand the chance of your body grabbing up available fuels from muscle and other tissue. "Wasting away" is just a miserable way to lose weight.?ÿ?ÿ You will eventually get skinny by eating only very little, but that runs the risk of wrecking the body's system instead of utilizing it.?ÿ Just like an internal combustion engine, your body needs to be tuned up and given the proper fuel and lubricants to run efficiently.?ÿ I stopped shoving junk in me and started giving my body the right stuff and I was surprised how quickly I was slimming by about 2 pounds a week consistently.?ÿ And eating plenty so that I never really felt like I was denying myself anything.
?ÿI'm now only about 12 to 15 pounds away from getting back into my old Pep Club uniform... 😉
Need pix or it never happened. (Pep Club uniform, that is.)
"Pep Club uniform, that is."
And don't forget the pom-pom's. ?????ÿ
As a child sodas were a rare treat and sweets were pretty uncommon as well.?ÿ By my early teens lawn mowing provided the revenue, freedom and mobility for me to have a nearly endless supply of Cokes and candy.?ÿ I've probably consumed a minimum of 3 12oz Cokes or Mello Yellos per day and often 6+ per day for nearly 40 years plus all of the desserts, ice cream etc. that I wanted.?ÿ As a result, I joke that I'm twice the man I used to be.?ÿ?ÿ
I was 145 lbs when I joined the Army, 165 lbs at the end of Basic Training and still 165 lbs when my enlistment ended four years later.?ÿ From then till mid-April of this year I gained an average of 4.5 lbs per year topping out at 282 lbs.?ÿ I swore to myself I'd never see 300 lbs.
I went cold turkey on the sodas around April 15th. Since then I've gradually cut back on pasta and bread and I no longer keep ice cream or candy in the house.?ÿ I still snack of the evenings but it's usually fresh fruit or a bit of cheese.?ÿ Without denying myself too much I've dropped about 15 lbs in 6 weeks.?ÿ The ultimate goal is be south of 200 lbs.
While I have gained it most of it back I lost 70 pounds in 5 months.?ÿ 20 years ago when I was diagnosed as a diabetic (Type 2 at the time) and my doctor put me on a "Protein Sparing Modified Fast" diet.?ÿ I could eat 900 calories a day, none of which could be carbohydrates. I could eat all the celery and dill pickles I wanted, other than that I had to measure everything.?ÿ My blood glucose was falling like a rock until about 4 months in and then it was like dropping a rubber ball it went back through the roof.?ÿ The Endocrinologist looked at me and said, "You're weird".?ÿ I had converted from a Type 2 to a Type 1 (insulin dependent) in about 6 months, it usually takes years.?ÿ I struggle daily with my weight, I love vegetables, I have almost given up bread, and walk daily.?ÿ My problem is portion control, I have to work on that.

... I could eat all the celery and dill pickles I wanted, other than that I had to measure everything. ...
Andy
I've got an interesting story about pickles and blood glucose levels.?ÿ I was wondering if it was anything you might be able to corroborate.
in 2006 in endured 10 months of weekly chemo treatments.?ÿ While the treatments appeared to be working there was always a chance the treatments would be discontinued due to any one of several factors.?ÿ The most important was red blood count.?ÿ The crap (I called it weekly injections of Drano) made me horribly anemic.?ÿ I couldn't walk to the bathroom without stopping to rest.?ÿ Luckily my numbers hovered just above the threshold.?ÿ The other was blood sugar levels.?ÿ I guess the crap messed with everything and my blood sugar would get high and stay there.?ÿ Too high and the treatments would be discontinued.
With diet I managed to keep things under 200 but the doc wanted it lower.?ÿ Weekly I went in for blood tests and I would always fast before the test to give myself any little edge I could.?ÿ I mentioned this to the hematologist that was drawing my blood.?ÿ She told me "dill pickle juice".?ÿ I asked how a young girl knew such stuff.?ÿ She showed me her automatic insulin pump stuck to her waist and said, "experience".
I tested myself every morning with the "stab and strips".?ÿ After she mentioned the pickle juice I tried it out.?ÿ I would test my blood glucose level, drink about 8 to 10 ounces of pickle juice from the jar, wait about 15 minutes and then test again.?ÿ I found if I was fasting I could lower my blood sugar by 15 to 20 points with the pickle juice.?ÿ It became my regiment every week right before I had my labs taken.?ÿ And I guess you can't consider it any sort of 'masking'...I guess the vinegar and sodium just had that effect.?ÿ And the effects would "wear off" with an hour.
I was wondering if you had ever heard of this or tried it out??ÿ It worked good trying to get from 200 to 150...I'm not so sure it would have help out if my numbers were 300 or 400 (been there...).?ÿ And the 'pickle juice sodium bomb' played hell with my BP. But at the time I wasn't so worried about that.

Dr. Google says there may be some short-term effects, particularly in suppressing a rise in blood sugar after a meal.

"Conclusions: The antiglycemic properties of vinegar are evident when small amounts of vinegar are ingested with meals composed of complex carbohydrates. In these situations, vinegar attenuated PPG [glycemia] by 20% compared to placebo."

"These data suggest that vinegar ingenstion at bedtime may favorably impact waking glucose concentrations ...?ÿ The effect ... has been attributed to reduced starch digestion and/or delayed gastric emptying.?ÿ Neither of these?ÿ proposed mechanisms likely explains the effects noted herein."

Sounds like a Pickle back, isn't such a bad idea, after all...
The U.S. is still in many way a puritanical country when it concerns certain foods & drinks and in particular wine. Most every nation in Europe drinks wine with their meals and?ÿ?ÿI can't help but wonder if the use of pickle juice is doing the same thing as a nice glass of wine.
Whatchathink?
Except wine is HIGH in sugar content.?ÿ One glass can raise my glucose level through the roof.?ÿ My doc said if I'm going to have a drink have a Scotch instead, only one of course.
Andy
After a strenuous, hot day in the field, pickle juice has an amazing rejuvenating effect. ?ÿGood stuff.
