OK, I just finished my first ever McRib.

I give it 3 stars out of 10.

It's no more than a big skinny pork "McNugget" on a bun with onions and pickles.
The sauce was OK, but didn't do enough to hide the dang thing.

Maybe my expectations were to high.

I've never had one. I may try and choke one down now. When I was a kid, McDonalds was the best restaurant ever. About 20, I realized that I could do much better at Burger King. It seems like their food isn't as good as when I was a kid, but it could be due to the fact there were toys and places to play.

3 of 10 huh. Not great at all.

I guess I can weigh-in (no pun intended) on the issue.

McDonalds is so-so. There are a couple things there I will get, but generally try to avoid it.

The McRib is probably one of their better items, maybe only because it seems to be a seasonal item rather than on the regular menu.

Have I had better pork? Yes. Have I had better sauce? Yes. But it is pretty tasty. I'd rate it higher than 3/10 for a McD's product, maybe a 9 compared to other McD's items.

Now, compared to a BBQ chopped pork sandwich from Smokey D's BBQ (winner of TLC's BBQ Pitmasters)? Well, there is no comparison and the McRib would fail miserably.

Well - I was so curious I went by last night, and they do not have them here. They said I would need to try in Phoenix (± 120 miles away). So, is it worth a 240-mile drive for one of these "pork McNuggets"? Actually, I'd probably get two or three if I were to go that far!

I think they are ok. I don't go out of my way to buy them, but they are not bad. I can't understand anyone who is crazy about them, but I also cannot understand anyone who thinks they are vile. My $0.02.

Oh, and for the record, I actually enjoyed eating in the school cafeteria, but ECISD did a reasonable job most days (unlike my 6 months at IISD). I can see a McRib as a pork comparable to salisbury steak.

Have a great week!

I live and work near some of the best bbq joints on the planet.

I have cooked on the pit all of my adult life and still learning.

But,

That little hunk of something they call a McRib is might tasty to me, I will never chance being recognized, so I always order to go.

lol

Angel - What about 5 guys?

In case you haven't noticed, there are two 5 Guys Burgers in the Portland area.

I've eaten there 2 or three times, a little more expensive than In-n-Out, but IMHO better.

When I first worked for the State I traveled on a project with an Engineer who had been working for the State since before the rocks broke down into dirt.

We were driving north on Route 33 into Santa Nella (a wide spot at I-5 and Route 33) about dinner time so we had a discussion about places and I said "anywhere except McDonalds is fine with me." The look on his face was priceless; I had no idea he only ate at McDonalds but his self-haircut with dull scissors should've been a clue I suppose 🙂

Had a McRibb when they started them years ago. Tasty, yes. I wondered if it was what they call whole hog, aka spit out the grissle and bones and grind up everything together

Found a similar product in the markets and looks the same.

The local MikeyDees does not have them or else they take them home with them as they say they do not participate in all promotions that the company offers.

I would rather have a KFC chicken strip box or a toasted Subway.

When I want BBQ I will cook.........

There have been many times that I ate luke-warm Beanie Weenie out of a can that has been riding around in my vest all day.

But you could not pay me enough to eat a McRib. Yuck-o Spam with BBQ sauce on a bun 🙁

Yea we have one down here in Salem too. I love 5 Guys, think they are delicious!! Wendell is hooked on their Cajun fries. Wendell LOVES 5 Guys and thinks they kick In-n-Outs butt!! But, IMHO, I think In-n-Out is a little better. But that's just me and my loyalties and growing up in the heart of In-n-Out country. 🙂

Falls in the same catagory for me as potted meat or vienna sausages, not something I'd make a steady diet from, but pretty darn good when I'm in the mood for it. It is the ONLY thing I'll eat from that so called food service establishment.

Friends don't let friends

I'm sorry, but friends don't let friends eat at McDonald's. Support your local businesses instead. If you want BBQ, then go to a real BBQ joint. If you want pork, I'd suggest Bun Cha Giao Thit Nuong at any of your local Vietnamese restaurants. You get charcoal grilled eggrolls with that one, too. If you don't have any Vietnamese restaurants, my sympathies.
