It's been a bit warm around here lately. Here's an all too common scene.

I've often wondered how many beers it would take to erase the first four bars of Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush from your head after driving one of those damn things around all day.

Rich.

The drivers in Lawton all look like the bus driver on the Simpsons (Otto) and they all wear headphones. No telling what they are actually listening to at the time.

I'm sure it's the only thing that keeps them sane.

Here in Iowa, they're driven by teenagers who thought driving the ice cream truck would be better than detasseling seed corn. You can tell by the look on their face they would switch to the cornfield in a heartbeat if they had the chance.

Its a real challenge to sit here with a nice rifle and not to just shoot the speaker off of them vehicles.

Stop the madness...And the music.....Arghhhh...

Deral,
I always thought a small black powder cannon would just scare them away. No shot, just powder!!

I live across the street from a large park. In front of my house is a basketball court, a tennis court, and some very large soccer fields. Add lots of people on hot days and the ice cream trucks show up en masse and just park at the curb.

Now I am a patient person but I long for the day when we have vaporizing ray guns.

City people. I would have killed to have an ice cream truck come rolling by the field I was working in as a youngster. Maybe popsicles, too. Later, I was hoping for a beer truck to have to make a detour down a back road, the one I was on.

I thought they used the beginning of Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer". It raises my blood pressure to hear the phrase repeat, and repeat, and repeat with no resolution.

I'll venture a guess

Oh, GREAT!

Thanks a lot Bill. Now I'll have that running in my head for the next three days.

You're correct. It is 4 bars of The Entertainer here in CR and Marion. In Fairfield, it was Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush.

Music Box Dancer

The truck that comes through our neigborhood plays "Music Box Dancer". It was a pop hit in the 70's, even though it was never intended for pop playlists. I'll bet the driver fantasizes about suicide...

That's what they use here. "The Entertainer". Don't you think for reasons of mental health they would have more than one tune available on those things? Yeah, thanks a lot, Bill.

Kept the horse and mule at the edge of town and the city grew around us. When you noticed the horse and mule start snorting, stomping and running around you knew that the ice cream truck was making its rounds. They could hear it long before we could and did not like it. The other thing they didn't like was the police on their old fire truck with it siren and horn going along with their amplified Christmas music. They went around town giving toys and food to the needy and making all the noise they could while doing it. The horse and mule did not mind fireworks or the other noises they could hear. Always wondered what they were thinking while they were watching the 4th of July fireworks going off with their air bursts. Low flying planes and helicopters they also calmly just watched. When any of that stuff was going on, I was out with them, didn't want or need a runaway.

Here in Norman, OK...

they've got a good angle for a college town...

The 'popsicle' trucks are driven by smiley young sorority girls.

Although they still drone "Pop-goes-the-weasle" incessantly, they probably do a good business down near campus.

Well, at least that got "The Entertainer" out of my head. I'm not sure "Pop Goes the Weasel" is an improvement, though.

I Stand Corrected

My earlier references to Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush were incorrect. The song I was (unfortunately) remembering was, indeed, Pop Goes the Weasel.

Although there are many versions of that song, the one I remember is:

All around the mulberry bush
The monkey chased the weasel;
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun,
Pop! goes the weasel.

You can see how one might be confused by the mulberry bush reference.

I also wish to thank Dan for the Turkey in the Straw reference. I, too, have heard two or three bars of that song blasting from one of those fouls machines and I now have a raging cacophony in my head as all three songs compete for dominance.

I may have to search online for an MP3 of Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree just to clear the memory banks and regain some semblance of sanity.

Is it hot enough to suit you? HECK NO... send us some sun

Heck NO!!! Give us some heat.

I am wearing fleece and have the fire going in the fireplace. Rain, fog and +52F, same old cr@p weather for the last two months. Tomorrow we set the record for the most continuous days of rain in Anchorage. I think it is 42 in a row.

I would say this is an average if not colder than average year for W. Texas. Heck, there's half an inch of water in the drawr.
