Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering.

Jitterboogie, donƒ??t give in to hate. That leads to the Dark Side.

If Once You Start Down The Dark Path, Forever Will It Dominate Your Destiny.

The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

Youƒ??re fulfilling your destiny, Jitterboogie. Become Leica apprentice. Learn to use the Dark Side of the Force.

The shroud of the Dark Side has fallen. Begun, the Clone War has!

I've been curious for a while.

After firing up and older 2002 and reading the specs, I'm excited to see what the newer green stuff can do!

Oh I still wish it was ƒ??Wildƒ?. I loved the ƒ??Wildƒ? equipment. I donƒ??t think you will be disappointed they make some great equipment. Once you figure out your work flows and try not to think the Yellow way and terminology you will be fine. I have been able to change brands and witness many people make a switch from one to another. I think the biggest thing I have learned is to not try to compare. Almost like comparing a wife to a ex wife just makes it frustrating. Figure out how to make it work the best way it can. Every brand has pro and cons just maximize the strengths of whatever brand you are using.?ÿ

@jitterboogie what model on the 2002 ? I ran a TC xxxxx 1ƒ? and a 0.5ƒ? on that Henderson 2000 project traverse from one end to the ?ÿother and back a few times. One that I liked the best was still stamped Wild. ?ÿThe other was Leica same guns but was during the transition. Had to be made prior to 2000 as we rented them for the project. Non robotic ones. I manually turned every angle and plunged the scope. We wrote all rounds sets in a field book. While they both worked with the SDR 33 fine when it came to calibration of the mean angles and such the SDR 33 was truncating and doing some fuzzy math between the direct and reverse readings and it was always in the same direction for zenith angles and horizontal angles. No matter what the math was supposed to be. You could read the Bible at a 1,000 feet plus with those optics. My how times have changed. That should be a test question about parallax. Hardly no one looks through a scope anymore. I am at the point myself I will chose rtk over a robot now in most cases. Was looking at a job this past week and told the LS I was going to tell my crew to just rtk the whole project. He was like uhmmm are you sure protect my seal uhmm is it accurate enough. I said yes and way more productive. Wide open area base and rover and I have a tenh of a foot tolerance in vertical on dirt. My guy has to set up at minimum 6 times a day in different spots on a job large site to check grades and going back 2 months the contractor has only had a few points out of tolerance with his machine control on same pads so I think we can make it easier on my crews.

@jitterboogie oh triple prisms and double them up stacked you would be amazed just how far an old edm could shoot. But just like rtk ppm is added to the standards. ?ÿI still remember the specs of our daily sokia +or- 3mm + 2ppm 3ƒ? hz angular. ?ÿNow when i ask a crew chief or i man what the specs of his equipment are itƒ??s usually S5 or about 2cm or some other model name. ?ÿMy 2nd LS I worked for would show up and ask every I man what specs were and sn# of our instrument. ?ÿHe probably didnƒ??t know it but the things the little things made me a successful Marine by what he instilled in me. ?ÿHe would give us random math problems like ok I have you turn a angle and distance what is the rough error you can expect with you total station. Now days my boss is looking for anyone with a heartbeat lol. Every time i go now to meet my crews he is like please be nice take them some donuts etc.

Is not quite as extreme but Trimble is the Windows to Leica's Linux. At first you grumble about how it isn't as simple to use but once you find the hot keys correct and all up options set correct it's lighter and faster overall. As a survey geek I like that Leica let's you control everything but some prefer a point and shoot package. But if you don't put in the effort up front you'll have to fight it all the way.

?ÿ

Assume your switching to TS16 (or better) and GS18T rover and GS18 or GS16 base and CS20 controller with Captive. Think I actually prefer the previous generation software, smartworx viva, but the hardware upgrades make up for it!

?ÿ

In the past I've always found the Leica hardware physically lighter than Trimble but current gs18t is a bit heavier and cs20 much heavier than cs15 it replaced (not as awkward as tsc7 though). At robot end though no need for heavy battery operated prism though which is nice. And I've always found Lecia is much better with the accessories package.

?ÿ

As Jim Frame on here got me on to, ditch the 360 prism for a GMP101 mini prism for weight/cost savings and better pointing accuracy. Never used my 360 on pole in three years of having the robot as wide open topo gets done with GNSS then robot to fill in the holes and for boundary GMP101 much better.
