Actually..............one set of my great-grand parents did move to Idaho over 100 years ago.?ÿ They originated in West Virginia, escaped to Missouri for a few years, retreated as far as Illinois for a decade or two, returned to Missouri for a few years then terminated around Buhl/Twin Falls, Idaho.?ÿ Some Conrad families out there today may be related to me.
The widespread results of people moving from metro areas into rural America have shown an upsurge of more rules, codes and requirements thrust upon laid back locals that really don't want them.
The lack of certain rules is why they have lived there.
All it takes is all the newbies becoming interested and getting on the controlling councils and begin to enjoy making rules for others to live by and for them to pay more taxes to make things newer.
There is thin line between rural living and living beyond the reach of municipalities.
Yep.?ÿ I used to review subdivision plans for a county north of here.?ÿ Rural (once upon a time) but with a lot of folks wanting to either move to the country or at least have a mountain weekend home.?ÿ One of the things that the county did right was to have a statement included on all subdivision plans.?ÿ I don't remember the exact wording but it was something to the effect of "This is farming country, there may be odors and sights that you aren't accustomed to but they were here first.?ÿ Get used to it".

I frequent a tractor forum, with a lot of rural people on it.?ÿ There is a lot of talk about people from some states, California for one, of people leaving and moving to places like Idaho.?ÿ Like A Harris said, these people than want to make it more like where they came from.?ÿ Of course the locals aren't always to keen on that.
Actually we are getting two types of transplants.
The vast majority are coming here to live in a more conservative community. Those who settle in the urban centers find things a bit more blue than expected.
The other large group are those who sell a California residence and buy cash / retire here. That group is gojng to shrink as our markets are overvalued and rising...
