Went to the store yesterday to get some Ramon soup.
Went to a store that I knew had the flavor I wanted(the white packaged Picante Chicken).
Went to the shelf that had the soups and began looking at flavors.
I looked at the flavors & packaging moving down-isle until I got to the very specific flavor I wanted . . . I recognized the package and I bought a dozen . . .
This morning as I got the soup out to make . . . I realized that I actually got the flavor that I generally don't like.
Worse yet, I got the flavor that, while looking(at the store), I absolutely didn't want, cause it's generally a little too hot for me(heartburn).
Now . . . the flavor I wanted is generally white in packaging, while the flavor I most didn't want is green.
I need someone to explain to me(as "everybody" else does), why this is "normal" because I've turned 62(?).
This carrraaappp is really beginning to get old . . .
Shoot that happens to SWMBO constantly, and she's only 42... she can take two things side by side thinking that they the same and when she gets home, one's different.
Maybe you shouldn't have retired, I'm 70 and not retired, but I did start drawing SS when I turned 70 last August. Don't have those problems yet, the wife seems to pick up some strange stuff at the grocery store occasionally, she just turned 65. Going to move the office home soon do more playing in the shop and around the place and only do enough Surveying to keep my hand in. Will not be selling off my equipment unless I start misplacing the tape on the Lenker Rod.

Another sign of being old
I almost ran my truck through a convenience store wall this weekend. Just like those old duffers you read about who plough into crowds and store walls thinking they are on the brake pedal instead of the gas. I was deer hunting and went to the store for gas or something wearing my big honking insulated boots. As I went to brake at the curb, the truck lunged forward instead of stopping. My big fat foot in my big fat boot was on the gas pedal AND the brake and the 6.7 liter V8 won easily. I hit the curb and bounced back violently. Luckily for me and the attendent on the other side of the wall (blissfully unaware thank God) the curb was at least 10" high and it didn't roll over it. She chatted me up about the weather when I entered and I didn't tell her how close she came to winning a lucrative lawsuit.
I think the grocery store changes packages and moves stuff on the shelf just so they can watch us old geezers blow a 30 amp when we short out...
and DON'T even get me started on how to get into packages nowadays...I used to be able to open a bag-o-fritos with my teeth while driving and holding a cup of coffee...now you need a cutting torch just to get a candy bar open..
(a) They change the color, size, and package just to annoy.
(b) Finding and opening packages just gets worse the older you are.
They change the color, size, and package to attract attention and new customers. I don't think they take into account the number of people who can't find their old familiar product so buy something else instead.
And almost every product I've gotten to like over the years has eventually been made "new and improved" so that I don't like it any more.
I know exactly what you are talking about. Been there, done that, have the indigestion to prove it.
As a youngster the telephone book was maybe 30 pages total, just for our little part of the world, and in good-sized type. Now it's more like 300 pages, covering about 80 miles by 80 miles and in print so small even the grandkids can't read it.
As a youngster there were M&M's and Peanut M&M's. Now there must be 8 or more different packages all labeled M&M's.
As a youngster there was Coke and Pepsi. Now how many different variations are there of each one?
For sure. Premium crackers recently pulled that stunt when they made the "new and improved" round saltines with the "same great taste" and got rid of the square ones that they had been made famous for. Well the round ones were new, but did not taste as "great". Many months later I noticed the "same as you always liked" square saltines back on the shelves.
Ramen noodles is about noodles, not flavor. Go to Kroger's and get a jar of Jamison's Chicken, beef, or whatever stock and it will be miles ahead of what comes in the package. You will thank me for this. I learned it on the road many years ago and survived to 64.

Reminds me of when they changed Coca Cola to that "New Coke"...and people whined so bad that they went back to the "Old Coke". :pinch:
