Came home from the feed store today and found this rat snake crossing my driveway.

SWMBO doesn't want him eating our peafowl eggs so she's yelling at me to catch him. She was yelling "there's his tail!", "there's his tail!"...That really wasn't the end I was worried about. He doubled back into a rock wall. So I grabbed some gloves and took a portion of the wall down and came up with a 6-footer that smells really awful.

I have a 5-footer in a terrarium on the kitchen bar. He's a store-bought pet and nowhere near the girth of this one. If it didn't smell so bad I would probably try to keep him. There is a TX Supreme Court Judge's property nearby I might let him go on.

No no no no no no no no

Didn't yo mama teach you better than to play with the "soon-to-be-dead"?

If you can't do what really needs done, then haul that sucker over three toll bridges before you dump him out. He might get back through the first one because he has a scent (cent) and the second one is for insurance. The third one is the belt-and-suspenders guarantee he won't be back to visit again.

Every time I have ever grabbed a snake that way it wasn't long until it was pulling its head back through my hand, they were not pulling from the other hand, they were using contracting muscles. Fingers behind the skull prevented that. That snake will smell better if his environment and feeding habits are changed, so odor should not be a long term problem if you really want to keep him, I wouldn't.

These guys are pretty common around here. I never seem to have anything to put them in with me. My wife would "have a cow" (no offense Holy Cow) if I really brought one home. The look on her face may be worth it though.

Did he take a BM on you? There's nothing that comes close to the smell of snake p**p. Used to pick up garter snakes as a kid and remember that horrid odor
