I have had a lovehate relationship with realtors for many years so it is good to read that maybe these smug people will be brought down off their lofty perch.

Except for Pat May and a few commercial real estate guys, I haven't met one I like yet.

There is a realtor in my hometown that ditched the 6% commission a decade ago. I'm not sure what he actually charges though.

Fortunately the vast majority of the specimens I deal with in my rural areas are top notch. The more competitive urban settings not so much.

Anyhow, I don't believe this is anything to celebrate. The business model of giving minimum cost and better eye candy for less Direct Personal (Professional) Supervision probably doesn't serve the public any better on the biggest investment of their life. Like it or not realtors and lawyers are professionals, and we all tend to get lumped together.

They should be selling professionalism within their field, but often do not. Kinda reminds you someone else...

I haven't heard from Pat or Robbie in a long time. I don't do the Facebook thing, Pat may have a social page on there.

One local Broker asks the owner what amount they want.
Then adds 20% and keeps it.

They're tough to like, that's for sure. In my own experience, I've ended up hating all the realtors involved on both sides of the transactions.

As a group, they seem to do their best to give false information, while discouraging clients to contact land surveyors. Sure, they have no standing or authority, and their opinions are just opinions, but somehow the general public puts them in high esteem and believe their opinions hold weight, while they retain no liability for their unfounded opinions, which people use as advice while spending hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Not around here

They consistently rank near the bottom of the "trusted occupations" list

Usually just above politicians

A few years ago I had a conversation with a realtor that had gotten ahold of a seven year old survey I had prepared for the owner of a piece of residential property. Stuffed in some title work, the particular owner that had been my client no longer owned the property. The realtor was probably trying to "grease" the deal and get it to fly and inquired if I could "just update" the old survey...for free, since nothing had changed. She couldn't understand my reluctance to "stand behind my survey". (wtf?)

I took the opportunity to ask her if she had ever sold the same piece of property more than once over a period of time. When she acknowledged she had, I asked her if she did it for free the second time, since she had been paid her commish on previous sales.

She told me, "it doesn't work like that". I told her it doesn't work like that over here either.

I don't know what they ever did or if it ever closed. Don't care either.

I "spoke" with Pat a week or so ago, before Irma. They were trying to decide whether to stay or evacuate. They stayed and had only minor damage.

It has been a few years, but the last time I checked a broker was limited by law to 6% of the sales price. That number calculates to 16 2/3%.

Pat is on my friends list on FB. She doesn't post a lot.

Thanks, I don't do the Facebook thing so I am out of the social loop. Robbie worked for me in the 80's, Great guy.
