PLS30820, who I'll call Paul, and i were able to take a short sail this afternoon. He is visiting the Cape with SWMBO, and was able to sneak out while the family was at junior theater! "I'll get some popcorn" and boom, he's off!

It was a nice breezy day, one that called for a reef in the sail. For those who have sailed catboats know to reef when the wind hits 12-15 knots,or white caps appear on the bay. The sail is reduced about a third with a single reef and about two thirds of double reefed. This way the boat and i don't have to work to hard.
So here's a picture of a couple of deadheads out for a sail. Yes, I did skip out from work a bit early today.

Oh, Paul is visiting the Cape because he was lucky enough to marry a Cape hotel from Harwich, the next town south of mine.

Thanks again for the sail Don. It was a fun, little damp at first, but great sail. I even made it to dinner on time!

He better have! LOL. If you are ever up on Cape Cod, look he and SWMBO up. Even the dogs are cool. Name of his sweet boat is none other than "China Cat", according to the mooring paperwork (and news to his better half), get it? it's a catboat..... Must be a deadhead thing. :snarky:

I drove by Chatham Drive in Santa Rosa, CA the other day and I know how to pronounce it.

The rest of the streets in the subdivision are named after Dickens characters and places.

That looks wonderful, I'm drooling with envy. My grandson wants to go to a 3 week "summer camp" that involves living on a boat for 3 weeks in the British VI and doing coral reef research. He wanted to do it next summer when he turns 13 but it's been suggested he wait one year to get a little bigger. The program involves a LOT of diving and his size is about 15 percentile for his age; his aunt doesn't think his body would hold up well to the abuse. So he is going down to the aunt's and uncle's (she just finished her PhD in marine biology) next summer to get his dive certification and start his marine research so he can go the following year for the full 3 weeks when he turns 14. He will have to raise money for the trip, perform research, and give presentations on the results. What a learning experience, and the ocean can be so healing. I think it will be a life changing experience for him.

Funny how the timing of things sometimes work. As I started into Beer Leg this AM I was wondering how Foggy Idea was making out with his new boat, and here you are!

Don - great choice for a name; China Cat is one of my favorite Dead songs; always brings a smile when I hear those initial chords, and as Paul notes, it IS a cat ....

How did the renovation go?

Ken

Very jealous.

My boat languishes because of the joys of young children. I just wish someone would buy it so it can get the use it deserves. Unfortunately the market for boats is rather slow here at the moment and despite a very healthy discount there are no lookers let alone buyers.

I'm in Sydney at the moment and by sheer chance the boat show was on here on the same weekend I had to come up for other things. Boat looks have not improved in recent times! The pursuit of maximum interior volume has left boats with high topsides and a bloated appearance that is not that attractive.

Once I finally sell my boat and the kids are a little older, I think that I will start chartering yachts on holiday. I can sail on other peoples boats at home and get a fix of big boat to myself once or twice a year.

Being on a boat with cold beer, I'm in for that.....

Locally, the revenuers have been giving out DUIs for open containers and if in their jurisdiction would hunt you down if show your pic.

Glad to see the tradition is being continued in your parts of the world......:good:

Man, I haven't been on a sailboat in something like 35 years.

DUIs for open containers... and on a sailboat? Really?
Do they also give those if you're on a skate-board or riding lawn mower?

Down here in Florida, only the "driver" of the boat can get a dui or "bui", but totally different that being in a car with an open container. With the wind actually driving the boat, there is only a person steering......I know Mass is a little different, but as i've heard, the cape has many drinking towns with a fishing problem...... HA.
