@dougie

I can't believe the calf is still alive and how in hell did it get there in the first place? At first it looked like some surveyors I know checking inverts. ????

Id like to know how they found him.
Several years ago our neighbors full grown bull got into our field, got to fighting with our bull, and ended up in the same situation, except the sinkhole was about 20’ deep and 30’ across at the top. At the bottom the hole was about 5’ across, then below that it turned to one side. The bulls back end was back in that turn, and when my dad found him he had been in there long enough he had it worked into mud soup and had given up. We got an old tow rope I had found on the Ohio River bank, managed to scrape out enough mud to work it under him behind his front legs, and had a wrecker come and hook onto him and drag him out. When he got to the top and we got the rope off him, he got up and almost staggered back into the hole before finally heading back home. He never came back.

With my luck Mama would have had a horn stuck up my rear the whole time I was trying to rescue Junior.

Must have been in the Sand Hills portion of Nebraska.
