Time has come to place another order for survey caps. 1/2" rebar/3/4" Pipe.

Question: Do you know if ANY of them are UV stabilized?

What is your favorite brand?

I am not trying to address the "2 bit rebar" issue. That is for another thread.

Thanks for your advice!

Nate

Caps aren't required here in the Great (Pimple size) state of Connecticut. I'd say 1 in 10 use them

We use the 2" Bernsten quick ship aluminum caps on all our corners. Yes they do get expensive (over 1000 corners set last year) but they give a much better presentation and look than the plastic ones.

we like the Berntsen caps too - from 2" to 3 1/4", depending on project/use.

we found that sometimes instead of 5/8" or 3/4" rebar - concrete form pins with the point are easier to drive into hard hard ground, and the plastic inserts still seat well on the steel.

I am satisfied with this company if you want high quality plastic.

That's what I've been using for the past two years and I've been very pleased.

I, personally, have always preferred Bathey Survey Markers. I've used them for over 20 years now and the caps set back then are still as bright as the day they were first set. No fading and no brittleness from UV. The contrasting black ink really shows off. Only had a couple that the ground squirrels seemed to chew the edges on.

I keep my aluminum caps for more substantial corners.

we also have plastic caps from Surv-Kap - very reasonable and fast delivery.

My favorite caps are those with another surveyors name on them in questionable locations. 🙂

Guess I will have to get a small supply with your name on them.

Thanks guys. I think for this time, the one that J Penry mentioned will get a try.

Maybe next time I'll try another.

I use Bathey also and have since about 1992. Way back then, there was some UV problems and splitting, but they resolved those issues a long time ago. Call up and talk to Sally and she will take care of your order with no hassle and for a reasonable price.

We use these open center Morasse caps from Berntsen, here is the link for the closed center style (not sure why I couldn't find the open center version):

To the best of my knowledge they are UV stabilized. I have used these for around 20 years. They are colorfast and hold up well. The cap is put on before pounding into the ground. The installation process tends to mushroom the top of the rebar, adding extra security to the cap.
