That, and a liberal application of:

I'll have to ditto Deral on that. She didn't mock it like Roseanne. She just f..ked it up. How that happens is another matter. I've been on stage many times and I generally turn to jelly inside. So far as I know, I've never flubbed a song.
The greatest version I've heard was a little girl that whaled/wailed the song at the start of a NASCAR race in CA some 10-15 years ago. There was no dry eye in my house that day.

Every once in a while, some late night talk show host or bloopers show host will go out to the general public and ask questions that many of think EVERYONE should know the answers to....and they don't.
So, it's not that uncommon to have screw-ups such as this. But keep in mind, this is sung at thousands of venues, to all kinds of crowds, and most pull it off without problems.
That said, if I were going to sing The Star Spangled Banner" on live TV at the Super Bowl, I'd certainly learn the words, or at least get one of those teleprompters.
Someone who works with me sings the National Anthem at Columbia University's home games (basketball and football). He hadn't sung since the end of football season, and he went back in to do basketball after a long layoff. He told me his aim was to "avoid a You-Tube moment".

Then you are either absolutely amazing, or extremely lucky. I don't think I know a single musician who hasn't flubbed something in performance at some point or other.

What makes you think she didn't learn the words?
She's sung the National Anthem at other events without flubbing the words. (She's also sung it better, from a "musicality" point of view...) Maybe she was having on off-day. I know I've had days where it seems nothing goes quite right...
i still wouldn;t throw her out of bed for eating crackers !!!! tdd
Dang Ted...
Nothing to do with Crackers...or bed...as long as she knows the words..lol
DDSM
(I wouldn't expect her to sing the National Anthem while eating crackers in bed)
i do--THE PART SHE LEFT OUT===
AND THE ROCKETS RED GLARE-THE BOMBS BURSTING IN AIR-GAVE PROOF THROUGH THRE NIGHT THAT "TED WAS STILL THERE"

The fact that she didn't SING them.
This was one moment I would have been IN FAVOR of a teleprompter.
Teleprompter??? I'm in favor of a smart performer- it's 1 stanza, for crying out loud.
Christina Aguilera moment
i have my aguilera moment approaching. LS adjustments training session in Leica Geo Office. presentation for three this morning. trying to keep my wits about me.
Instrumental Version of Star Spangled Banner
I saw this when he did it on the Dick Cavett show - I was so stunned and moved by it I cried, and it still moves me tremendously to this day. Its a feeling unlike anything else has ever stimulated in me. Its a mix of pride and happiness i just can't explain... simply fabulous!
Instrumental Version of Star Spangled Banner
As a huge Jimiphile and collector, my opinion is that this was not as good as the Woodstock version. He performed this more times than you think though. Anyway, any Hendrix is good Hendrix.
BTW, he and Noel Redding (bass player) were not getting along at this time, and this show was not their best by any means. Noel quit/was fired a few months later.
I've got the video to this show and it's obvious Jimi is not in a good mood.
