Breaking habits is hard but vital these days.?ÿ A thousand years of shaking hands or hugging upon meeting someone is tough to change, for example.?ÿ Coaches want to have a private conversation with their team by saying, "huddle up here".?ÿ Close talkers need to be shot on sight.
At the same time, one needs to keep in mind that anything short of an N95 mask AND eye shield/goggles may not be doing the job that is needed.?ÿ A/C systems and hand dryers in rest rooms may be problematic.?ÿ BTW, we have survived in our home this year without using A/C.?ÿ It can be done.
@rankin_file Did I misinterpret or is that the smell of Darwinism coming from you?
@lurker ummm nope- that would be glutamate, dopamine, testosterone and cordite -

Saw this store sign one day
and thought Wow! this is something rf would really get into. An entire store dedicated to ammunition.
Think I passed it a few more times later before I figured out it was printer cartridges.

YIKES! I don't have AC either; never needed it in the Pacific Northwest. It gets down in the 50's at night and there's very few days that it gets above 80; today's average is 77, it was 81 in Puyallup today.
BUT! I used to live just a few hundred miles north of you; I know what it's like to endure a long, hot, Summer...in the Midwest. you sir, are a better man than me. I take my hat off to you...
I find the quickness and ease with which most were and are willing to give up their liberty for some perceived sense of security to be much more worrisome than the virus.
The China virus will run it's course no matter what we do. Yes we can slow it down but until "herd immunity" is obtained we have it
to bear.?ÿ ?ÿAlso, the seasonal influenza?ÿ vaccine is only appx. 40% effective. I, for one will not emulate the lemmings.
The more we slow down the coronavirus, the more people can benefit from improved treatments as they are discovered, and be protected by an eventual vaccine.
I do what I need to do out on the world, but put up with some inconveniences in the hope I will be one of those who puts off contracting it long enough to get those benefits.

An N95 offers the wearer some more protection than a cloth mask, but less protection to those around them if the wearer is spreading virus because of the vent valves.
A/C in a building occupied by many people may be problematic. A/C in your home would only be a significant spread factor if you or your wife brought the virus home and were totally isolating from each other.
I don't see that hand dryers would be a big problem because those hands presumably were just washed.
I had a crew member that worked HVAC and tested the air coming out of hand dryers. I noticed that if paper towels were not available, he dried his hands on his pants or inside his pocket.
Typically the duct system for hand dryers pulls air from the bathroom in which it is installed. This concentrates any fecal (or other) particals making it asinine to use a hand dryer if your goal iniin washing your hands is cleanliness.
It's a thorny issue. At a recent doctor visit, I asked the PA if he would be vaccinated as soon as a vaccine is available. His answer was immediate: no. He said he would wait at least 3 months even though he is in health care and would likely be eligible for an early spot.
When the doctor came in, I asked him the same question. He thought for a second or two and then replied no. He said that clinical trials were good but he would wait for real-world confirmation that the vaccine is both safe and effective.
On top of the timing, we're probably going to be flooded with different designs: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/05/20/science/coronavirus-vaccine-development.html
I get overwhelmed in the shampoo aisle. How on earth am I going to cope with this?
The real problem is; NOBODY knows what to do, so ANYTHING we do is wrong...
They told us the numbers would go down in the Summer, the virus doesn't like the heat. The numbers went up.
If you don't think that wearing a mask will prevent you from spreading the virus to your mother or grandmother, and killing them; then by all means, don't wear a mask. Just let me know how you feel, after their funeral.
I, for one, plan to do what ever I can to stop the spread. Even if it's wrong...
@dougie wrong according to who? Have you gotten your Fauci recommended googles yet?
I'm travelling this week, I have to wear my mask the entire trip except when eating or drinking. I'm really going to put on weight and go to the bathroom a lot.
